Thundergod Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Any of you guys think this is very wrong too? I think gibsons, specially customs should never have a maple fretboard. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Custom-Shop-Les-Paul-Custom-Natural-with-Maple-Fretboard?sku=518047
GuitarJunkie Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Does nothing for me... and I like almost everything.
Tim Plains Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I don't like them personally...but I'm sure they have a following.
MattS Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 *Gags* I'm sorry, but that is one of the ugliest guitars I've ever seen, especially for $3,400. No wonder it's on clearance.
ChanMan Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I'm not much on the neck, but I kinda like the body /shrug
MikeRom Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I think it works for that guitar. The inlays on the other hand, they need to be darker.
saturn Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I'm sorry, but I kind of like it. I've seen them before and thought it was interesting. I've always like any "natural" guitar whether it's a Strat, LP or other. I generally prefer rosewood or ebony fretboards, but the maple is kinda neat on this one I think.
DoubleSixx Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I like it, well I'd lose the pickguard. I wouldn't buy it, but if someone gave it to me as a gift no problem. I wouldn't pay that much, I'm interested in the tone. The inlays should've been black.
elessar820 Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I like it, but black inlays and maybe a figured top would make it better.
Thundergod Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 I think maple fretboards are for fenders only... (and for me fenders should have only maple fretboards...) For Gibson, I like rosewood or ebony... c'mon Gibson...
retrosurfer1959 Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I like it and I love maple fretboards great feel even though they do show wear. Reminds me of my 77 L6-S
KennyF Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Actually, I like it! This isn't the first time in Gibsons history for that guitar either.
geyser Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 not ugly at all, IMHO *peculiar* for sure, I'd say ...
daveinspain Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I don't like it... I looked at a 1980 Black Beauty this summer that had a maple fretboard... The guitar was in mint condition with original hard shell case but that maple fretboard just threw me.... He was asking $2800 for it. Turns out its a collectors item and was a good deal but I couldn't live with it! Hey Thunder notice MF has it on clearance sale, must not be a big seller...
saturn Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Hey Thunder notice MF has it on clearance sale' date=' must not be a big seller... [/quote'] $3399.00 is clearance?
Les Paul Fanatic Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 (Retch) I just threw up in my mouth and yet I haven't had anything in the past twelve hours.
sloan999 Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 this is actually the guitar i wanted... but i would have needed $700.00 down, and i had $640 on me... plus they would have had to order it in, and i was impatient.... but i really liked it. also the studio with natural finish, and the 'blonde beauty'standard, and theres another that had a wood headstock, instead of black.. with gold inlay or something... but i have terrible taste.
Toner Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I guess they could have dyed that maple black with some aniline dye, like they use on "trans" bodies. If someone gave me one of those, thats what I would do to it, if I wanted it for other reasons, like it's tone.
daveinspain Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 $3399.00 is clearance? That's what it says in the add... CLEARANCE SALE
Flight959 Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 $3399.00 is clearance? Indeed.. Flight959
fingers galore Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Ebony fretboard is the feature I like most on a custom.
