2012 Gibson HomecomingTM

JUNE 13 - 16, 2012

The 2012 Gibson HomecomingTM will be held on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 13 -16, 2012 in Bozeman, Montana. The Gibson HomecomingTM is a gathering of independent Gibson enthusiasts who will informally gather in Bozeman to meet others who share their love of Gibson acoustic guitars.

Hotel reservations can be made by contacting the Gran Tree Inn at 1-800-624-5865. A reduced room rate of $121 per night is available (single and double rooms) or $149 (King suites). In order to receive the reduced rate, you must give them the group name of "Gibson HomecomingTM" or “group number 805523”.

Availability is limited, so it is recommended that you register early. If the Gran Tree fills up, there are other hotels in the Bozeman area, but that is their busy time of the year, so register early in either case. The Gran Tree has a website at www.bestwestern.com/grantreeinn. The hotel has a restaurant, lounge, casino and indoor pool. There is also an airport shuttle service available.

Bozeman does have a commercial airport, so it is possible to fly into Bozeman if you do not wish to drive. Car rentals are available at the airport. However, if you don’t wish to rent a car, the Gran Tree has a shuttle bus that regularly runs to the airport. In the past there have been enough participants with transportation, so it is usually possible to catch a ride to the events which are not held at the Gran Tree. Some of the events are held at Gibson Montana (http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Divisions/Gibson%20Acoustic/Additional%20Info/Montana%20Factory%20Tour/) and Music Villa (http://www.musicvilla.com/) and these locations are not within walking distance of the Gran Tree for most people. It is suggested that you make these arrangements in advance with the other participants.

We are still working out all of the planned events, so they will be announced at a later date. However, based upon past years, it is anticipated that the events will include several guitar related clinics, a tour of the Gibson facility, and voluntary acoustic Open Mic events. We are also planning to include a songwriting clinic and a tour of a professional recording studio.

All costs associated with this event (travel, meals, hotel, etc.) are the responsibility of each individual attending. We will be asking each participant to donate towards the cost of our Hospitality Room at the Gran Tree (where several of our clinics and other events are held) and other expenses. However, depending upon the total number of participants, this cost should be very minimal.

I will be handling the registration process for the event. Please e-mail me at guitarstrmr@aol.com if you're interested. Let me know the number of slots requested, names of individuals attending, address, and an e-mail address so I can recontact you with updates.

Registrations will be limited to 75 participants. Anyone registering after we have reached that number will be placed on a waiting list. In the event that we have any cancellations, those people on the waiting list will be contacted in the order that they were placed onto the waiting list to fill any open slots.

There are many tourist attractions in the Bozeman area, including Yellowstone National Park. Some past participants have extended their stay in the Bozeman area in order to see some of these attractions. The Bozeman Area Chamber of Commerce is a good starting place to learn about some of these attractions. Their website is http://www.bozemancvb.com/.

The 2012 Gibson Homecoming website has now been updated to include a link for our tentative schedule. Some of the planned events include a day trip to Yellowstone National Park, tours of Weber Mandolin, Waverly Tuners, Peach Street Studios, and of course, a tour of Gibson Acoustic. We are also planning a home recording clinic with a demo of hand-held recorders, a songwriting clinic, two open mic events, a question/answer session with Ren Ferguson and a Gibson Day at Music Villa. Music Villa is also planning a special concert for our group featuring a local group.

Sounds like the place too be this summer not sure if we can get away this year during that month!!!

Montana is a tough place to get to but if you really want to come just fly in and someone will be there to pick you up. It's just a short 8 mile trip to the motel and there are plenty of good folks that will give you rides to Music Villa. It's actually in walking distance but...Yes there is Avis and all the rest of the rent a car companies but it really isn't necessary. The Gibson plant is 1/2 mile from the best motels and then there is Yellowstone Park. Plenty of folks go every year and will be glad to take you along. Just get in and make a few inquiries. You will not regret it.

There is usually a guitar or two to win and plenty of shirts and jackets available. Gibson has given away at least 10 guitars and if you win you aren't eligible to try again so the odds just keep getting better and better.

You will pick up all kinds of useful info and you will have a better idea of what folks are talking about. Bring your camera.
