SG Charger

HI Everyone

I just purchased a New Gibson SG Robot from someone on Ebay.

The Guitar had a ligit serial number and was truly a 2008 silverburst SG Robot.

However it came without the cables to plug into the charger. The seller did contact me and said he would send me another one.

BUT when I called Gibson customer service they said they would not SELL me the cables in fact they said they would not sell anyone the cables or charger seperatly, they told me to contact repair, I did, and service told me to contact customer service (catch22?).

I asked how one would get this replaced if lost ,was told, "cover under warrentee" for the first year,. I asked what would happen after the first year and basicly was told you are s--t out of luck.

There is great customer service for you, When you can't even BUY extra parts.

Alan

I feel your pain on this matter, but I honestly fail to see why someone would buy this guitar. When the day comes where I can't tune my own guitar, I'm gonna hang it up. What's next, a guitar that you just hold while it plays itself? You tune it before the gig with your tuner, and if it's set up properly, iut should stay in tune the whole gig, unless new strings or temp. change. That's one reason why I wouldn't own a vintage SG--They only stay in tune for about 1/2 song--In fact, back in the day we used to call them SG-flats! The new Gibsons stay in better tune than ever before!

EDIT: I didn't want to sound to hostile with this post, and realized it kind of came off that way. Don't take offense.

Um, perhaps he uses multiple tunings? A Robot Guitar IS cheaper than several different Gibsons.

Mebbe you don't think it's awkward and clumsy to tune from A440 to your open G tuning, but it's certainly says alot for keeping the momentum going at a show when you have a guitar that can completely retune and back in less than 10 seconds flat while drinking a beer and mingling with the ladies.

Whether or not you see a use for Robot Guitars or not, there is a niche for them and therefore they will sell.

Now when kids cannot tune by ear nor manually with a digital tuner because they are relying on this technology, yeah, I see a problem.

Don't knock it because it's different. I'm sure there is some guy out there with a tuning fork cursing those of us who use digital tuners. It makes a musicians (especially a WORKING musician's) life easier. It doesn't make you LESS of a musician.

As for not being able to purchase a new power supply from Gibson...that's pretty much BS.

Does the guitar have any kind of electrical mumbo-jumbo inside the control cavity? I don't know what kind of connection they have, but you should be able to find out the voltage, etc, and buy an all-purpose charger from some electronics store (try eBay). Just make sure it matches otherwise you might fry your 'Bot.

That is pure bullshit that they treated you that way. I would ask gibson for the specs on the chargers ac plug adapter, what is the output spec is it ac or dc how many volts and amps, or maybe post the question on here or a few sites, you should be able to get one that matches. I have not seen the charger in person, but have seen pictures of it and it looks like a common type, maybe visit a gibson store and check one out.

I agree, it's not hard to tune a guitar. However, I bought one, cause I could get a sweet SG for only 1379.00. The self tuning thing is just a bonus. Why would I spend 1500-1600 on a standard when I could get better for less?

That is exactly why I picked mine up, always wanted a SG and as you said the robo is a bonus that can be simply disabled if you wish not to use it. Ebony board, locking roller bridge, locking tuners and a bound neck and head stock are great feature, then throw in the robo.
