Fuzz Face Shoot Out

For ****'s sake, step away from the Strat and turn off that delay.

Seriously, I like the blue Hendrix Si Fuzz Face a lot. Those BC-108 transistors are very musical. Not so big on the red reissue Fuzz Faces. There are better Ge fuzzes out there, especially the Arbiter Fuzz Face clones.

LOL!!! Yea, I have that strat approach. So would you say the fuzz face sounds better with the Marshall than the Pro Jr? What would you recommend for that 60s 70s fuzz tone? I already have the swollen pickle and big muff.

Sorry, didn't realize that it was you in the video.

I like the Pro Jr a lot more. I think in general Fender amps take pedals better than amps built for dirt like the Class 5. Not knocking the Class 5, it's a pretty sweet amp, but with the two Fuzz Faces it is too saturated. Plus you have the insane hum of the Strats pickups.

For the record I don't like Big Muffs or their sister pedals like the Swollen Pickle. They remind me too much of mid scooped distortion. Every time I plug one in I start playing Pantera riffs.

For that sixties fuzz I would look for a Tone Bender clone or an Arbiter Fuzz Face clone. Something gritty, but not high gain and Ge. Analog Man makes some nice ones and does Fuzz Face mods if you get a used one cheap. I think Keeley makes a Ge & Si fuzz that might be worth checking out. AFAIK going into the seventies you had a lot more Si fuzzes. Regardless, go boutique. Those tend to sound the best because they have the best components like matched transistors.
