So I'm going to give this one a shot, looks high quality from the pics!!!
crossroadsnyc Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Buchanan, your traditional picture gives me the worst case of GAS ... I swear, I have a crush on your guitar ... might be my favorite on the forum. Sorry off topic
buchananblues Posted September 29, 2008 Author Posted September 29, 2008 thanks man, it's my first Gibson and I love it as well, I was going to order the blue satin cover but I thought the gold matched better. I'll post a pic when I get it.
MikeRom Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Go for the gold. It would be a shame to have a blue one bleed all over that gorgeous top. Not that I think they are necessary - at all.
Tim Plains Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Not sure if it's true or not... Those covers were used with LP cases. My '07 ES's case had one. I remember reading somewhere that those can scratch the finish. I didn't want to chance it and cut it out of the ES case.

I would shy away from using one of those. Sometimes I feel the top scratches just by looking at it. :-)
retrosurfer1959 Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Ok so that's basically a aftermarket version of the shroud that was in all custom cases up till a few years ago when they decided it might actually be bunching up and scratching the guitar top right???? not to be overly sarcastic but damn I wish the world could make up it's mind someday on what a case should be then I would know which cases to use let's see The most famous are the brown Lifton or poodle cases but were not supposed to use them anymore because the pink can bleed and since there's only one latch the cases sometimes come open dumping the guitar. or the black case with the shroud and grey, blue, or white interior? the same black gibson case without the shroud? the black and red alligator case that came with the Voodoo very cool looking? OR maybe the whole aftermarket cases which are either great or suck depending on who you ask My personal favorite the Ameritage tweed cases which are great but also cost 400+ for a case OR - A coffin case that would protect the guitar even in a car wreck but weighs 30 freakin pounds and looks goofy as hell when you carry around a kid size coffin. OR - hell guess we could get into the whole gig-bag thing or else I'm just gonna wrap it in a old blanket and keep it in a cardboard box...
Wolff Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Those are called 'shrouds' and I much prefer the grey plush with shroud that Gibson had used for a long time. I really don't like the white plush and I miss the shroud.
Flight959 Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Looks ok, Whats wrong with just the case? The Gibson cases are great.... I dont think the gold colour would go with you White murdered persian cat lined case.... Nice guitar btw... Flight959
deepblue Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 I remember when I bought my first Lester in 1991. It came with a shroud. I dont really need one.
RichCI Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Ok so that's basically a aftermarket version of the shroud that was in all custom cases up till a few years ago when they decided it might actually be bunching up and scratching the guitar top right???? not to be overly sarcastic but damn I wish the world could make up it's mind someday on what a case should be then I would know which cases to use let's see The most famous are the brown Lifton or poodle cases but were not supposed to use them anymore because the pink can bleed and since there's only one latch the cases sometimes come open dumping the guitar. My CS Custom has a brown case with pink interior, including the shroud. The guitar is over 17 years old and I have never had any issues from the interior of the case. If anything is causing scratches or swirls, it's playing the guitar, not some piece of cloth.
buchananblues Posted September 30, 2008 Author Posted September 30, 2008 Thanks for all the input and I never knew they were called a "shroud".
nolongermike@gibson Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 I still keep my R'59 in its sacred shroud that came with it. I wish I had one for all of my guitars. I don't care much for a satin one like they make, but if they made one from the cotton material my shroud is made of, I'd order several.

So, I think what I might do is see how the one I ordered fits & looks and then order a cotton one. I've spent 12 dollars in worst ways.
nolongermike@gibson Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Let us know. I'd gladly buy one for my Les Paul Classic + and my TV Yellow Les Paul Special, and one for my ancient SG Standard. It deserves some soft treatment after being resurrected to its third life. I'll have to photo graph that thing for you guys sometime to show you what it looks like put back together to spec. Poor thing went through three head stock repairs, but this one was the only one done right.
ChanMan Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 I'll have to photo graph that thing for you guys sometime to show you what it looks like put back together to spec. Ok now you're just teasing.... :)
Mark Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 I bought a new Studio and it had a cover.....Bought a new Standard and nothing
buchananblues Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 I bought a new Studio and it had a cover.....Bought a new Standard and nothing How odd is that. what color is the inside of your case (with the shroud)?
buchananblues Posted October 6, 2008 Author Posted October 6, 2008 well, the yellow/gold shroud I bought on ebay showed up on Saturday and to my surprise, what a great aftermarket product, especially for 12 bucks!!!!. It fits perfect, the quality is really nice too and it matches my gold top. I'll try to get some pics if anyone is interested. Later.
iownanlps Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 My Supreme (2007) came with a white satin shroud, the interior of the case is white, apparently the dark interiors discoloured the nitro finish...some people have far too much time on their hands!!
