I would point you to the title of this subforum -

The Gibson Lounge

General discussion area, members must have 10 posts before posting here

And according to the rules -

18. No Racial, Religious, or Political post will be allowed on the forums.

- - so it's pretty much open to all kinds of topics here in the Lounge - except for profanities and member bashing you mention. If you find non-musical topics excessively annoying, maybe you shouldn't hang out in the Lounge. B)

:) Well worded, scuse my rant I was just a wee bit annoyed.

i've offered my forum running services to this site but still awaiting the invitation :-k

Yeah I get that, it is good of you to offer. But really, running a forum, delete THIS post but not THAT post, keep THIS thread can THAT one, man, prolly want to kill yerself the second day. It really is best to just have blanket exclusions and just can something as soon as it gets close to cannability.

You have to admit, you do know when a thread is gettin canned, right?

i thought that was the fun part? :-k

I thought so too. But at this forum, apparently not. Seems to me, after many many years, decades, in guitar places, this here lounge, the general area, seems like some folks want a thread to devolve into deletion, and then just b1tch about how threads devolve into deletion.

Weird if you ask me, but there it is. This company does have some things to protect, and I'm pretty sure they don't want crusty old guitar dooshbagz like me running roughshod over their nicely provided enterprise, so I don't begrudge them deleting anything they don't see fit to be written under their name.

They've nicely put up with my three initials under their name on every guitar of theirs I've ever used, lots, so I suppose I can give a little back.

Guest Farnsbarns Wunterslausche

The Page thread had turned into a great big slagging match, no point arguing on matters of opinion. The Hendrix thread had turned political.

I can see asking why the whole thread needs deleting rather than just the offending posts but it is the way it is and just accepting it is the only option you have.

Deleting a load of posts is a lot more work than deleting a whole thread I suppose.

The page thread would have looked rather bare if you took out all the posts that were just bickering, it would have gone from 8 pages to about 3 posts.

I actually think the Mods and Admins do a pretty fair job, (although I've never gotten a private post telling me to back off or anything).

It's gotta be tough to try to keep this a plesant place to visit...and it is....and we HAVE to have some guidance.

So when I see a thread is locked down or deleted...I move on to another.

(it AIN'T life or death stuff here!)

Heck Layla's post about Jimmy being hot (or something of that sort) was one of the most constructive and non-inflammatory posts in the thread.

Thank You!!

But AW MAN, I haven't been here long enough to know which stuff is headed for deletion.... I spent STUPID TIME on the web fetching up all those pretty pictures for y'all.... and now they're all GONE... sniffle.... what a time waste!!

OH. WELL. wondered where that topic went, I came back to chuckle some more and see where it went....

oooOOOoooOoohhhhh here's one for the conspiracy theorists, maybe it's possible Page is really part of the secret Illuminati and won't allow negativity about himself to remain posted on the web or else....

JUST KIDDING!!!!!

But seriously: he is a supremely major Gibson customer.

Get real. It makes sense THAT would be taken down I guess.

And a note to everyone:

We should ALL think about what you are saying and how you would feel about, what IF you were saying that comment, compliment or insult directly to that person's face.

The internet is searchable.

Some of these people DO look up things about themselves. Robert Downey Jr. does - I read that in an interview, he thinks it's hysterical.

But think. How would YOU feel if you worked your tail off making your career only to find junk like those arguments all over forums all over the web?

Always be accountable for everything you say in public anywhere.

msp_thumbup.gif

ALWAYS realize that the celeb or ANY NAME you may be talking about - it's possible if they were running a search on themselves, could find it. AND if you yourself are looking to build a career or name for yourself in music, in that business, random negative comments pulled up on the web will NOT HELP YOUR CAREER.

It pays to be nice.

Period.

Talking about celebrity names or your own friends or acquaintances or wherever.

Be accountable.

Anything you say online can ALWAYS come back to bite you.

And after all ---- there is probably not one of us here who, if Jimmy Page or his staff called up and said "hey we would like to take you on as a guitar tech" and polish those 2,000+ sweet guitars he owns or change out strings -- would say NO. Now would'ya??? Regardless of personal opinion?!

Uh-huh, thought so.

That's all I'm sayin'.

will do!! I've got a church event this Sunday night which is likely the next one, so I can't be there then, but -- it'll happen -- one of these days! and if we get tired of waiting, I found 2 open mics in Danville on Thursdays -- one at Cork's (7-8) and one at Marcello's down the street (8:30-10). And Straw Hat Pizza in Walnut Creek is hosting Karaoke on Fridays. msp_thumbup.gifmsp_thumbup.gifmsp_thumbup.gif

I wouldn't call that Jimmy Page thread interesting, I'd call it a perfect example of middle aged men (and a few younger members) acting with the poise and maturity of a bunch of angry 13 yr olds. Heck Layla's post about Jimmy being hot (or something of that sort) was one of the most constructive and non-inflammatory posts in the thread.

Uh .... I hope you weren't lumping me in that group... Although I am middle aged....[biggrin]

The joke he's laughing at is ;

Two Fenders walk into a club and see a couple of LPs onstage with beautiful tops....

They start calling out " Take it off, take it off !!!! "
