Identifying 498T &490r Pickups

OK ... a 9 day wait for my ebay won SG Standard 2005, comes to an end tomorrow when Mr. UPS delivers her to me. Although the seller suggests it's all original, he couldn't tell me anything about the guts. He was not the original owner.

Do the stock Gibson pickups in our beloved SG Standards have any 'identifier' markings like say 'Patent Applied For' or anything to indicate 490r or 498t? Most humbbuckers do look the same on the underside .. I mean, GFS could look like a Gibson etc..

Thanks.

I never understood why pickup makers are so cryptic about identifying their pickups; why don't they stamp the model number in the bottom as well? Most Seymour Duncan and Dimarzios seem to always have a logo stamp or some type of markings on the bottom, and most of the later pickups have logos on the top as well (the Dimarzio HS-2 and HS-3 that I bought in 1987 only had "HS2" and "HS3" stickers on the bottom, no logo, and I have early Seymour Duncan Distortion and Invader pickups with no top markings.) I do wish Gibson would add something so that a 498 doesn't look the same as a 490, or a 500T and so on.

EXACTLY!!!! It's my biggest fear nowadays because there are just so many people modifying their stuff. I've always been fortunate to buy brand new all my life to the tune of having owned more than 22 genuine Gibsons since 1967. So now that I've narrowed down my search to the 3 or 4 I'm forever to keep, I find this nice used SG and feel quite insecure about it BECAUSE OF NO PICKUP I.D.

WTF??????

Anyways, maybe if we all collectively start barking about it to Henry or higher, something can happen. Until then, I guess us 'used' buyers are stuck.
