Anyone have a MK-53 or similar?

Hey folks, I just picked up a MK 53 and it doesn't have a truss rod cover. Anyone willing to trace theirs, including screw holes, scan it, and send it to me? They were three ply (black, white.black) right? I think the Mk 81-35 all had the same size cover so that may be a possibility as well. I am not 100% sure on that.

Thanks Tarrr.

I guess I'll have to go that route. I found a really good image to use for the template. Just would have been a bit less time intensive and a bit more authentic and close to perfect correct had I had a traced version. Any idea now whether it was 3 ply material or something different? Possibly 2 ply? Black on white? The image I have leans toward 2 ply if there is such a thing. As a matter of fact I would almost bet on the 2 ply the more I look at the image you linked as well.

Anyway thanks again and be sure to look for my "custom" Mk series truss rod covers in a store near you soon.

(Ok, don't really look, I'll be lucky to get one marked, cut and drilled much less market them!)

Hi,, the truss rod covers are all the same on the Mark series guitars..

I'm not familiar with the MKs... since I'm curious I read the scoop page and it made me think of my long gone Songbird. Some of those 70s models were redone with rosewood, different bracing, etc... don't know but if you could find a Gibson luthier that might be your best bet. Most of the Gibsons I've owned had a same/similar 3-screw plate including the elecs.... just guessing. happy hunting.

Cool slimt,

Maybe someone with a different model will chime in and email a tracing. I have a pretty good layout of the cover from the image I have using photoshop resizing the neck width for 1 3/4" and digitally tracing it and I took measurements as well to be on the safe side. But it would just be so much easier with a traced template! The screw holes are what worry me know.. kind of hard to figure out where to place them exactly. I have a 1/8" idea where they go! I think once I get the cover cut I can use it to zero in the positions of the three holes.

Any idea if the covers are 2 ply or 3 ply? They would appear to be 2 ply by what i am seeing.

this should be the same as the rest of the Mk series guitars.. I know my old Mk 81 and 99 had the same cover,,

Wow, by my research there was only one 99 ever made. Pretty cool.

Any idea on the 2 ply 3 ply?
