nolongermike@gibson
Anyone else own one of these? I got Les to sign mine and he sat and played it, telling me these were the best pickups he ever designed. I loaned mine to Epiphone for them to take apart and copy the wiring and measurements, in 1998, for their version. I love it, but its not for everyone. The gold paint is really cool with a wicked looking checking on it from 30+ years of aging. I'll get some photos up, but I'd love to hear from some others who own this odd-man odd in their Les Paul collection.
Ian Martin
I don't own one of these guitars, but I sure would love to. They have such a unique look, and because they're fairly rare everyone is like "WTF IS THAT????" when they see one. Unfortunately I can't afford the Gibson model, but I've thought about springing for the Epiphone. Have you had a chance to play the Epi and see how they compare? nolongermike@gibson
I think the Epi went out of production not long after they made it, but I could be wrong. I know this much, the parts are not an exact match. My pickup ring cracked on mine, and being that they borrowed mine for six months to take apart and spec out I assumed I could get an Epi ring to fix it. They sent it to me but it didn't fit, it was a little too small. I have not actually played an Epi one, so I can't comment on how they play. This was ten years ago, as well. Ian Martin
The Epis are practically just has hard to find as the Gibbys, so I don't doubt they went out of production fast. Is there anywhere you have any pics of your collection? You have some very fascinating pieces, though I think you already know that. Also, how do you like the Jack Casady bass? They look so hella awesome, but I am skeptical of the sound seeing as how I mostly play Fender P-Basses.

adius
Hey, apparently we're a small group. I have a '72. Not fond of many of the low impedance setting but the high impedance works well. I think LP suggested the low imp setting was to be used for direct input to the board for recording. Maybe someone else can verify or dispute that. From my experience, it took some time to dial it in on the amp. I love the look and it plays like a 335. here's a link to a pic (you'll have to scroll down to the last post...I was struggling a bit with the post): My link
Grog
Nice collection!! We are indeed a small group. I don't really use mine much in Low Impedance, but unlike the Les Paul Recording, you can buy a chord right off the rack to plug into a PA or other low impedance amp. I also have a 1967 ES-335 with a Bigsby, more mainstream than the Sigs.............
