tweed2
tweed2- where can I find those blue labels on ebay? He's back again. clarkuss
I just bought 3 labels and 3 washers. Thanks to Eric, a member here, for being one of the easiest and best ebay seller's I've ever dealt with. Will post the results when I've got them all on the guitars. (The 3rd washer is for an epiphone SG to replace the bigger treble/rythm one.
taxman
I just bought 3 labels Hey, clarkuss, I got me a blue label, too; but what I don't have is a game plan for putting the thing in my Casino. 1. I notice the blue label is smaller in dimensions than the orange one already in the Casino. If I put it over the orange label, some orange will show. Bleh. 2. Is there a way of getting that orange label out of there? Soaking it would definitely work, but do I really want water in my Casino? 3. Can all this be done through the f-hole or does the bridge pickup have to be removed? Have you done a blue label application before? If so, tell me how you did it; if not, tell me how you will appraoch this. Right now I'm thinking of just laying it over the orange label and positioning it for as little orange to be seen as possible. Any better ideas? Right now I'm thinking of just laying it over the orange label and positioning it for as little orange to be seen as possible. Any better ideas? I have been researching this over at another forum and have got some good advice from people who have been doing this for years. Guys who used to work for big companies as luthiers (i.e Rickenbacker) I am going to completely remove the labels and keep them somewhere safe in case I ever need them and stick the blue label on the inside of the guitar. The product you need is Naphtha which is a solvent used to make lighter fluid. It's cheap but highly flammable. It evaporates so will leave no permanant mark on the guitar and will leave no trace or threat once the guitar is left for a few hours. Here's the method: "I would use a disposable towel or cheap cotton cloth(because if left to its own ... it can combust ! ) So how to do this.... Step one : wet the sticker with Naphtha Step 2 :leave it alone for at least one minute.. DO NOT use any Flammable object around or near you while you do this . Smoker... DON'T at all !!!! step 3: reapply "N" and with a paper towel ( I use the Bluue variety for this task NOT white kitchen stuff ) scrub in towards the center of the sticker ...pealing up an edge .. reapply "N" while doing this . DO NOT Worry about "N" reacting with any finish as "N" is the solvent for Pre World War II Varnish ... and NO ONE and I repeat , NO ONE uses that stuff any moe for a list of reasons... its crap for one . Step 4 : keep scrubbing and pushing the sticker towards the center of it... then wet the surface with more "N" and wipe off the adhesive." In theory the Naphtha soaks the sticker, destroys the adhesive and with reapplication and "scrubbing" or gently lifting the sticker you should be able to get the sticker off complete and once the Naphtha evaporates it will no mark on the sticker or the guitar. I'm going to try this in the next week to prepare my guitars.

Casino4Life
The black washer from eokratz arrived (excellent) and the foil "E" for the pick guard. I have put both on and it's got that "Lennon" look, the only difference is hte burst on mine. The orange dosen't go in the horns all the way, so I guess its a modern "Lennon" guitar but I am not complaining. Next up is a Swtitchcraft toggle, Switchcraft input, CTS pots and USA wiring and hopefully Gibson P-90s to round out the "Lennon" guitar tone. Pics coming soon
zerobox94
The black ring I bought on e-bay arrived and I installed it. The black ring is more or less the same as the one that came stock on my Inspired By Casino. Same thickness, size, color, shine, and I suppose material. The silver collar around the pickup switch on the Standard is definitely smaller in diameter than the collar around that on my Inspired By. This smaller diameter makes the black ring appear larger. I did not want that at all. The solution was that there is a small metal ring under the collar that is a shade wider than the collar itself (picture 2). All I did was put the black ring on the guitar, then the metal ring on top of that (picture 3), and then I screwed down the collar. The metal ring adds some diameter to the collar and the black ring does not look as large (picture 4). picture 2 picture 3 A wider Switchcraft switch will make it look perfect, but for now as you can see in the last photo the ring looks pretty darn good. It is far nicer than the rubber ring I put on. For seven bucks, not a bad deal at all. Now I'm searching for the blue label and the two screw truss rod cover. If I don't find those I am happy with my new pickguard, foil 'E', and black ring. Okay, I'm sort of lost. So in pictures two and three, why is all that blue tape or paper (I can't tell) around the guitar. What do you mean you screwed down the collar? I'm wondering since I am now the proud owner of a new washer.
taxman
Okay, I'm sort of lost. So in pictures two and three, why is all that blue tape or paper (I can't tell) around the guitar. What do you mean you screwed down the collar? It is blue masking tape. In order to put your new black washer on you have to unscrew the collar (the round nut) that holds the pickup switch down onto the guitar. To unscrew that collar you need a pair of pliers. If a pair of pliers is coming near my guitar, the surrounding area will be protected by blue masking tape. Unscrew the collar (the nut) that holds the switch in place. Put your black washer where it belongs. Screw the collar down on top of the black washer. Done.

RaSTuS
Thank you so much for clarifying how do it! I am totally new to modding guitars even in the slightest way. BTW: the reason for the attached string is in case the switch decides to fall into the abyss it can be easily fished out again.

taxman
Blue label in place..now I'm done! (Except for a two-screw truss rod cover.) I have Lennonized my Standard Casino! Here's the before and after pics: I notice that the real big change is the new pickguard. Foil 'E' is nicer and the original pickguard drooped way too much. It was way too close to the pickup selector switch; John's wasn't like that. You can definitely see the black ring better. I'm finished and I am happy now. RaSTuS
Congrats TM, you've done a wonderful job, I truly find modding extremely satisfying, I hope you don't get the bug to my chronic levels, LOL. Again, great work, have fun with it.
clarkuss
Get the nylon saddles!!! :) Looks great. I'd quite like a new Pickguard for my sunburst...
taxman
Thanks, folks. I'm happy with it. Get the nylon saddles!!! :) Don't the nylon saddles sort of take away treble? I like treble. My Inspired By with roundwounds gives me a great sound. On the burst I get a completely different great sound because that Casino is strung with flatwounds. With these two Casinos I am getting any John tone I need. "Day Tripper" sounds awesome on my burst, "I Found Out" sounds awesome on my Inspired by. I think my Tele is my best sounding guitar, but my Casinos are my favorites. They transport me to places no other guitar does.
RaSTuS
Regarding the nylon saddles, what happens to the strings grounding, most earth's are attached to the bridge post sleeve and travels to the strings via the bridge, do you have to move the earth to the trapeze, or is that even an option ??? plagueskill
Those pics of that inspired by look amazing! How is it? I was really thinking about getting one used, about $899 a lot to shell out for a china made from what i read, but really wanting a casino, and dont think my skills warrant getting an Elitist. So whats your opinion on that inspired by taxman? Great job lennonizing that casino btw!
taxman
Those pics of that inspired by look amazing! How is it? I was really thinking about getting one used, about $899 $899 for a used Inspired By Lennon Casino? Dude, I paid $765 for a brand new one last year. Shop the online sites and when they post these 20% off sales, buy! The Inspired By is well worth any price. The Standard Casino is really great, but for three hundred bucks more it is worth it to buy the Inspired By for the upgrades. Better tuners, better electronics, more accurate appearance to the 60s model, plus it comes with a case! Once again, the Standard Casino is an excellent guitar. The elecrtronics, the looks...no complaints at all. You can not go wrong with either a Standard or an Inspired by. Where you can go wrong is with an Elitist Casino. The Casino was a budget guitar. To turn a budget Casino into a high priced Elitist just because John played a Casino is just wrong. If John drove a Hyundai and then Hyundai sold that same model at Ferrari prices you'd agree that would be wrong. That's what Epi did with these Elitist Casino models. The Casino was and still is a cheap Gibson knock-off model. Don't pay high "Elitist" price for it. Buy an Inspired By; but if you can't swing it, you will be incredibly happy with the Standard Casino.

tweed2
An excellent question and one I've been waiting for an answer to. I would probably not put the nylon (or non-metal, whatever) saddles on because I want to keep whatever treble I have. I never considered the grounding issue. Anybody? No way would I spend $600 on a standard casino, it'd make more sense to just shell out the extra cash and get the inspired by, reeeaallly want a Casino and that inspired by looks beautiful, some would find it hard to justify that on a chinese made though, suppose if the qualities good it doesn't matter where it was from. Btw hows the neck on that thing? Also some have said there stickers on the pickups come with ones that said Epiphone U.S.A. they are the gibson ones right? One other confusing thing that im not sure makes a difference is that on some sites it says that its made with 5-ply maple, other sites say laminated maple, do you know which it is? Btw Gibson bought epiphone sometime in the late 50's weren't always cheap gibson knockoffs like today, the casino was an original epiphone if i'm not mistaken...... RaSTuS
ply = laminated, they are interchangeably .used to mean the same thing.
