geyser Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 ...and I'd like to share my joy with you guys, showing, as every happy dad does, first pictures of her (ehm... it, actually) everyone is invited to the party, but enter at your own risk if: 1) aged/relics stuff make you feel sick or 2) on the contrary you like it and you want to keep your wallet safe... ... we all know there ain't no cure for GAS ... or it was Summertime Blues? hmmmmm
ChanMan Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Hey Grats the new axe!! I am not typically a big fan of aging, but I like the way it looks on the body! Well done!
Mark Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Yea nice. and not over aged. I really do like the knob pointers. Congrats Mark
geyser Posted September 30, 2008 Author Posted September 30, 2008 I am not typically a big fan of aging' date=' but I like the way it looks on the body![/quote'] that's exactly my point ... I usually don't like relics even, but when I saw this beauty... and BTW I think there's at least a pro with relics: you can play them without fear to hit them, cause if that should happen, well ... you'll get just *another* ding ...
SRV-Zeppelin Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Congrats on the new R8, man! that's awesome, VOS guitars have always been my favourite as far as Custom Shop axes go. that finish is beautiful... and I also normally don't like aging, but it just works wonderfully on that guitar. Hope you play it for many years to come!
Wolff Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Cherry Sunburst is the color God intended Les Pauls to be. Very sweet, congrats.
Spitfire Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 She'll certainly hold her own in any beauty pageant. Well chosen!!!
GuitarJunkie Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Congrats! I played one of those yesterday. It was tough to put it down. Then I looked at the $5799 price tag and it got a bit easier.
Flight959 Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Nice ...very nice! Shame about the relic element of it. Flight959
geyser Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 hey guys! thank you all for the kind praises! Really appreciated! I played one of those yesterday. It was tough to put it down. Then I looked at the $5799 price tag and it got a bit easier. I see your point ... I paid something less for mine' date=' sure it was not given away from the seller ...:D but, considering how the economy is going, I thought: what the hell, better enjoy my money, before it's too late ... and still get home something that could keep some value in the future ... maybe ... of course my wife strongly disagree ... :D well, I'll let the things calm down for a little, at least til the R9 50th anniversary issue ... Tim Plains Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Keep in mind, I'm one of these guys that hates artificial aging. I wish TM would stop doing it. Having said that, sweet looking piece of wood you got there! The top has some nice flame. How does it compare to your other sweet, sweet Lesters? Weight? I think this means you should consider selling the JP to your good Canadian buddy...:) (You don't need that many Les Pauls...)
geyser Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 Keep in mind' date=' I'm one of these guys that hates artificial aging. I wish TM would stop doing it.[/quote'] I agree. Thinkin' to a very likely R9 50th anniversary, for instance, I really would like Gibson to go with best wood and detail quality EVER, great tops, possibly some vintage touch (BTW, why in these *aged* they don't make the Kluson tulip keys look as the vintage ones? that would be really fine, instead of those ugly white lines on headstock ... never saw a real vintage LP headstock looking like that...), but definitely no more dings and cracks. This said ... yeah, my new baby is really lovely and I forgive her for being a little ... aged... How does it compare to your other sweet' date=' sweet Lesters? Weight? [/quote'] I'm workin' on it/her ... :) so far, I can tell you weight is about 4Kg (8,8/8,9 lbs), very similar to the R9 and JP... they're so close in weight, I'm really not sure what's the lighter one ... I'd need a digital scale... the neck is just very very slighty thicker than R9 ... no problem for me to play it... tone is great, but maybe not as the two elder sisters (specially the JP, I think that's simply unbeatable on that), but I think we have to consider that this a brand new guitar (despite ... aged ... ), so needs some time and MUCH playing, and I'll give it/her both ... I think this means you should consider selling the JP to your good Canadian buddy... (You don't need that many Les Pauls...) yeah, you're right, WE don't need them, do we?
Tom99SS Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 That is one beautiful guitar there. Between you, Tim and FennRX you guys have me GASing for a custom shop 58/59. Tried a G0 this passed weekend just for fun and it did not do it for me. My '07 sounded better to me ears. Now that I am on the look out, when I find it I will now it.
