New Saddle & Pins in SWD

Gorgeous! I put bone pins with abalone dot inlays on my SWD to go along with the bone nut and saddle. Sounds sweet!

Yours look like fossilized walrus or something like that?

These are bone! Vintage dyed bone pins w/ 3mm abalone inlay. A vintage dyed bone saddle too. Yours look great drathbun! I asked for the fossil walrus, but Bob Colosi didn't have them in stock in this size. Turns out, these look similar and are not as expensive as walrus.

MichaelR ... missed the earlier discussion on these new parts for your SWD. What material are they. Pic wasn't clear enough on my computer. Thanks.

These are vintage dyed bone with 3mm abalone inlays from Bob Colosi.

Hi Michael,

What size did you get? They look beautiful and really enhance what is, to my eyes, already one of the prettiest guitars available.

Cheers

Rob,

I believe these are size 1 "T". The pins fit perfectly and did not need sanding.

Well, temptation got the better of me and I've ordered a set, along with a Bone strap button (not sure I'll have the balls to fit that myself, but I know a great luthier who'll do it for me.

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes to get them here in the UK. Patience NOT my strong point!!

Great! I can't wait until you get them, too. He seems great about getting the product out right away, so you shouldn't have to wait long. Please follow up when you get them

Had an e-mail from BC last night (UK time), to say they're already in the mail! Brilliant.

I'll take some "before" & "after" pics.

OK, so, I fitted the new pins yesterday, but before I did, I took a couple of pics of the guitar....

And then I fitted the new Vintage Dyed Bone with Abalone:

Although the new pins are a different colour to the bone saddle, they are a remarkably close match to the binding, and the Abalone works a treat with the rosette. It's made an already pretty (to my eyes) guitar even nicer.

As for the sound - I believe I can hear a difference (though not as pronounced as when I fitted the brass pins to my Yamaha. The sound "feels fuller", I think a but "warmer" and more "unified" - sorry that's crap but I find it hard to describe sounds... I can't hear a difference through the pick-up, but acoustically (both from the player's PoV and into a mic) it's definitely changed the sound.

I need to play it more to see if I think it's an improvement, but I'm erring that way so far, after all of an hour's playing.
