Reilly81
Recently picked up a 79 The Paul. Walnut finish, all stock. The back of the neck has most of the finish coat worn off but overall the guitar is in good shape. I have an LP and an SG that I clean and polish regularly but I'm looking for info on the best way to treat the finish on The Paul and any input on doing something for the back of the neck. Wax it? Tung oil? any insight appreciated. Reilly81
btoth76
Hello Reilly81! Sorry for using Your topic, instead of answering You. I was about to ask the same question regarding LP 50's Tribute's thin nitro finish. Can anyone with experience answer, what kind of solvent I should use on my instrument? Thank You in advance! Cheers... Bence
Angellus
for a deep clean I use Meguire's Fender care set its really really good but only use once a year or so other than that get a really good polish cloth and wipe before you put away is the best method to keeping it clean. if that doesn't get it clean the other two methods are reccomended by top luthiers. Naptha lighter fluid I.E Zippo lighter fluid this will leave a haze but cleans finish or saliva (own guitar use only) the above is if you want the lacquer to naturally dry and harden and release the guitars more natural tone otherwise Gibson guitar polish will provide the nutrience that nitro finishes require to keep soft shiny and wet type look but use sparingly also let the contact between you guitar and you remain skin to finish with no rings that wear away the finish and wipe the sweat off of your guitar as this WILL eat your finish over time
