creamygibson
Hello I want to install a tremolo/vibrato on my explorer. I want the thing to be simple and straight, ie, no more drill and no more holes on the guitar. Kahler seems to be complicated. What do you think of bigsby? Thanks
Rick
i was searching a response to this question too floyd rose is complicated to install?
creamygibson
for me floyd rose it's not an option. very complicated to install. you need to digg a deep rectangular hole on the wood to make room for it. In my case, i don't care for the micro-intonation of floyd rose...i just want the tremolo effect in a simple easy way.
cvansickle
Bigsby is a good option. You can buy a Bigsby mounting plate that attaches to the stock tailpiece posts. No drilling required.
creamygibson
cvansickle And after that it's possible to keep the guitar on its original case? As i remember a stratocaster needs to take off the tremolo arm to close the case...is this the same? someone told me bigsby arms doesn't take off... Morten M
The only available trem that doesn't require drilling or making holes (ie destrying the value of your precious instrument) is the Stetsbar. Else I'd go for the vibrola from Allparts.
creamygibson
stetsbar seems pretty cool. Never heard about it. Top class tremolo! Thanx
Morten M
I have one. It's ok as such but mine functions best with .09's and I use .10's so it's so and so depending who you are.
creamygibson
for electric guitars i only use 0.9's. even in strats.

I don't know about an Exlporer, I've never owned one. The case for my Les Paul with Bigsby closes just fine.
GKingN
I bet an Explorer with a Bigsby would look awesome.
Ian Martin
You're gonna have to drill no matter what you get, unless it's a Stetsbar. Also, gotta ask how you're gonna be using it...you will not be able to go all Van Halen/Dimebag and dive bomb with a Bigsby. You need a Kahler for something like that. Bigsbys are more subtle. cvansickle
Like I said, there are mounting plates for the Bigsby B5 that DO NOT require drilling. As for dive-bombing, granted, I don't do anything really extreme with a vibrato bar, not even with my Floyd guitar. However, I do use my Bigsby Les Paul to play Heart's "Barracuda" and Sabbath's "Iron Man." The Bigsby gives me all the vibrato action I need for those songs. If you're thinking about a Bigsby, I suggest that you find a guitar in a store that has one, and try some of the songs you plan to play on it. You'll figure out for yourself whether or not it will work.
creamygibson
Thanx. I use tremolo just to add some atmospheric/spacial feeling to my guitar parts. I'm not an hard vibrato user, no diving bombs and thing like that. I'm more into david gilmour sort of stuff....
