Pearloid Buttons vs. New Machine Heads

Ok... So I've decided to replace my perfectly good Grover Machine Heads that come stock on My ES-137 with Tonepros Klusons pearloid heads but then a friend said, "Why replace the entire heads when you could just replace the buttons"?

What do you think? I see that AllParts has some available for Grovers but the pic sucks and I can't tell if it would just be money ($30.00) down the drain. I don't mind spending up to $200.00 for new heads but if I can change out the buttons and have that nice look of a classic Gibby I'd rather do that as the Grovers work very well.

Anyone have suggestions for me on either really quality and good looking pearloid machine heads or just the buttons? The whole point is I want the look my other Gibsons have but with good heads.

Thanks,

Don

I've seen others on the Epi Forum swap out the kidney buttons

with the imperial buttons. They just unscrew and it's an

easy change. I'm thinking of doing that with my Sheraton.

Never did care for the kidney look.

I did just notice that some of the kluson style buttons

are to be melted or glued on. But if the ones you're looking

at simply screw on as replacements, then you should be good.

I sent for and received some Gotoh heads ($100.00) and they were quite nice but sadly the posts weren't quite long enough to extend through the head stock correctly. I don't much care for the imperial look but it may just be better and cheaper in the long run. Certainly the Grovers that came on the guitar are nice tuners. (except for the look IMO) [blink]
