Proud New J45 Owner

I've been playing out for about 15 years or so but recently it's taken a back seat with kids and family. When I graduated College I promised myself that one day I would get a real nice acoustic guitar. A litle backstory is that in High School I had a girlfriend and her old man had a 1960's crackled J45 that I used to play all the time. I mean....I had NO idea what I had in my hand at that time. Just no idea the level of guitar I was fooling around on.

So that time arrived recently thatI had enough liquid cash to get something nice and I played just about everything in the 1500-2500 price range. I tried EVERYTHING....all the Martin's, Taylors, Breedlove's....even some older vintage stuff at a great shop in Lexington MA. But....I came back to where it all started. I stopped at the local Big Box retailer yesterday and found a sweet J45 with the deadest strings in the biz on it. But I just had faith. I brought it home and put new EXP's on it and WOW. It's EVERYTHING I ever wanted in a guitar...the tone is unreal and it plays exactly how I want it to......I can see why people often call it a Beast.

Now...this goes to show...on the wall at GC it sounded muddy and weak. But those strings were BEAT....so after getting it home and putting some phosphors on there it came alive. Could not be more happy with the product and I'll be posting more on here as I am now addicted to this forum and Gibsons!

yeah, got my j45 just a couple weeks ago...Awesome guitar. Awesome. Soon as i played it, the guitar that I intended to buy was literally forgotten. It's crazy, but when a guitar speaks to you (and some of them do speak) most other things pale in importance.....Enjoy.

Yeah, I had been down to the J45 and the Hummingbird Pro. But after my 30th viewing of Crazy Heart Saturday night, recollections of the old J 45.....I just pulled it off the wall and rung it up. I was elated with the sound and playability once I swapped out the strings. Just an amazing guitar.

A pleasure to hear this. You are a lucky man – J-45's are fantastic creatures on the surface of the earth.

One incredible thing about this Forum is that we all know what a 45 looks like, but sincerely want to see pics of yet another. Always a new detail – always the spell. . .

Congrats also, from my corner! Love to hear of a new and happy Gibson owner. Very cool story associated with it also. Glad that someone in America has some 'liquid cash' in these 'days and times'... The 'new string' part of the story rings true to me also....

I feel that one can sense a 'good' guitar, regardless of the 'music store/dead string' environment... [thumbup]

Congratulations on acquiring a great guitar and joining the Forum. That's how it started with me.. one J45 and a username. I now have 6 Gibsons (down from 9) and 2 Martins. Welcome to the disease! It's my favorite sickness.

It's addictive, but it usually ain't fatal, unless you spend Momma's grocery money to buy another guitar.

I've got to figure out where to hide them: my wife is starting to count guitar cases. "Honey, there's no guitar in that one--it's just a spare case."

Down to six right now: three Gibby's, two Martins, and a Tom Prisloe. That's probably going to change, as I'm feeling an inexplicable attack of GAS.....

I'm thinkin' f-hole Gibson acoustic, or the Composite Acoustics carbon guitar. Probably both. And then a small-body Gibson.....

An intervention may be called for here.
