Pete B
You shouldn't start fighting over someone who wants to to do something with his property, it's his. If he wants to put it through a bandsaw, it's his to do it. If he wants to change a label and does not do it to gain profit ( a scam ) whatever! This guitars history in now being made here on the forums, and a Provenance like that can't devalue it.

cookieman15061
Cookieman, if you think the blue label is unethical, you might want to complain to Gibson - they have put 1,965 blue lables into virtually perfect natural Lennon Revolution Casino copies, and another 1,965 into sunburst versions, all with Lennon's serial number on them. They've even "faked" the scratches and wear marks on his original guit. So there are potentially almost 4,000 "fake" Lennon Casinos out there being sold by dealers and resold by private sellers every day of the year. I have yet to hear of anyone being duped into thinking they are John's original unit. And that's not including thousands more of the "Inspired By" John Lennon Casinos that also have blue labels. Please explain to me why it is OK for a manufacturer to fake up a bunch of tribute guitars with the clear intention of making extra profit, and yet it is wrong for a private owner to do the same for their own enjoyment with no intention of fooling anyone. I'd really like to hear your rational, thoughtful logic on this. sigh.............I think you already answered your question. Thanks for playing. duane v
They've even "faked" the scratches and wear marks on his original guit. They didn't do that on the JL REV Casinos, however they did give the Gibby JL LPJ a pre-beating ... which is why I didn't buy one and made my own..... bobouz
If someone's intent is to misrepresent their instrument when put up for sale, then obviously putting on a blue label is akin to what the Chinese fake factories might do. Conversely, I recently swapped truss rod covers on my three Epiphones because I prefer the look of certain combinations. The Elitist Casino now has the Valensi Riviera's plain white TRC, the Valensi Riviera now has the Peerless Casino's black TRC with an 'E', and the Peerless Casino now has the Elitist Casino's TRC that says 'Elitist'. If my intent were to misrepresent the Peerless, I could call it an Elitist model and take a nice big picture of the headstock & post it on Craigslist. But my only intent is to tinker with my instruments for personal pleasure & satisfaction. You'll never catch all the crooks, so the golden rule is > Be a smart & well informed shopper. duane v
Simply put... It's your guitar and you can mod it any way you like .... I don't think buyers are under any purchasing agreement with Gibson that they must leave their guitars unmodified.

I don't think buyers are under any purchasing agreement with Gibson that they must leave their guitars unmodified. You are right about the first part (your guitar, mod away), but wrong with the second part. One is actually under a purchasing agreement regarding modifications to a guitar. If one mods, well, there goes the warranty. I was told by Vox that if I personally changed my tubes in my amp the warranty is voided! Now that's an extreme, but you and I know that certain mods to a guitar would definitley void the warranty. You did up a Lennon Les Paul, right? You think Gibson is going to honor any warranty on that now? Hell, some of these companies are so tight with customer service, I bet if you change strings they'd void your warranty. You're correct on the warranty part that is.... but misrepresentation no such deal there Once I purchase any guitar, I could care less about the warranty, unless it ships broken.... ..... Once I buy it, I assume all responsibility
