Diameter of bridge posts. Epi Casino MIK

Recommended Posts

I know that there a few of you that have replaced bridges, so perhaps you have already discovered the information that I am seeking to find the models of roller bridges that are acceptable for my guitar, with little or no modification.

I have appreciated the posts concerning bridges here, but I'd like to find the measurements.

My guitar is a 1997 Epiphone Casino. Peerless factory . Made in Korea.

I think my 74mm measurement of the post center to post center is pretty accurate. But the post diameter and the post hole bushings, is another matter.

Q: Anyone know the bridge Post Diameter for this MIK stock bridge? I have fumbled with the measurement and cannot really tell what it is (6mm, 6.5mm, 4mm or ???).

Q:: Also what do the different sizes that I see posted really mean? Does it mean the size and coarseness of the thread. i.e....M5, M8, and how does that relate to my current posts and/or current bushings that are on my stock MIK? In short, what size is on this Casino now?

Q: Are the stock posts I have now, considered large or small posts, a term I have seen some vendors refer to?

It may be, that I have just asked the same question repeatedly......if so I appreciate your patience. I have tried to find a detailed spec of what is currently on my guitar but have met with no success.

I thought perhaps maybe the most accurate thing for me to do is to pull the strings off , pull the posts off the guitar, and head to a hardware store to see what the guys in orange aprons can figure out.

None of the above without modification, AFAIK those all use M5 Nashville style studs & bushings. Why do you want a roller bridge??? Roller bridge saddles by definition move, less solid. Here's a good quality bridge for your Casino the 0167. And if you have a Bigsby, you can get Graph Tech saddles for reduced friction.

I WAS going so suggest postting a few pics in order that we might see what you're describing.

A pics worth a thousand words, and all.

HOWVER, now that Jerry Mac HATH SPOKEN, I will listen to his Sage Advice.

Thanks for your suggestion Jerry. No doubt that Gotoh makes quality products. I think that my gotoh sd90 MG locking tuners for example are the best kluson style made.

So since you mention that particular Gotoh model, 0167, does that mean my Casino takes a M4 x .7 ? That's kind of the information that I am really after, so I can evaluate what's out there.

What does that mean, M4 x .7 ?

Also, I do want to stay with the 14" fretboard radius that the Casino has. I know not much difference between a 12 and a 14, but why divert away from that if it isn't necessary.

But what can really help me now is to figure this post diameter/bushing thing out, so I weigh out the product options. What does the MIK Casino have?

Thanks

T-O-M bridges come in 3 sizes. The original ABR-1 style (like the Casino) has two headless screws that are typically screwed directly into the body. A little thumb wheel adjust the height:

M4 (metric 4mm) is the size of the thread, .7 is the pitch. That's what you need.

The Nashville bridges have two bushings sunk into the body and M5 posts that screw into them. The Gotoh bridge is actually designed like a Nashville but made to replace an ABR-1. It's wider so you have more room to adjust the saddles, the saddles are held solid by clips rather than that stupid retaining wire, and it's a direct ABR-1 replacement. Plus they're high quality and reasonably priced, and that's why I like them.

The standard T-O-M used on most imports has M8 bushings & studs, and are easily identified because they have a screwdriver slot on the top of the posts. There are a few variations, like the infamous Samick bridges of the '80s, but basically that covers it.

A 14" radius is a little flatter than a 12" radius, I wouldn't fret it.

BTW, GFS states, "We also stock the classic ABR-1 screw-in posts and post 1983 USA Gibson Nashville posts - both of which will work with this bridge." So there you go, the Wilkinson should fit your ABR-1 posts.
