Anybody remember when, and/or why they joined the gibby forum?

I joined about 2 or so years ago, but I lost the password to my old account,

so I started this one, I remember joining cause I wanted to

the folks that knew everything about gibsons, but I guess I didnt find exactly that [flapper]

It was a total lapse of reason. Satan took over and made me do it.

Really it was because I've had a Gibson since 1963 - a classical from '63 to '82 and my F-25 since - and thought this would be a good place to be. And it is.

Because I thought it was a Mel Gibson appreciation society.....not really.

Because I love Les Paul's. Full stop.

But. Since I've returned to playing I've found that there is SO much more to guitars now than when I stopped playing about 25 years ago. You Tube is a gold mine for information. This site has most of the answers to my guitar questions and nice people too!

At one time this was by far the best guitar forum around with knowledagable people and good virtual friendships as well as a place to share information about the common thread of guitars and music. I keep hoping someday it comes back but that doesn't seem to be the direction that interests many of the more recent members so most of the original members have gone elsewhere.

I accidentally stumbled on to the Epi forum in 2008, and during that time there were some really cool members, and there were some "not so cool" members.

In time the Gibby forums has become a lot more noob friendly, which IMO has been better for the forum as a whole, rather than watching the same seven members whore up the lounge with ridiculous subject matter.

I dig what the members are posting presently.... A wide variety of topics, with a wide variety of points of views [thumbup]

I joined the epi forum first because I had bought a casino then a few months later bought a les paul studio and gravitated over to the gibby side.msp_thumbup.gif

There were times when some members were always trying to start controversies and this place was like a bad car wreck. I swore I'd never come back but at the same time couldn't look away.

I'd leave the forum all frustrated and my wife would ask why even go there if it's so frustrating. lol

Well because they're like my musical brothers. Family that you agree, disagree, admire, envy, laugh at, joke with, listen to, ignore totally, shake your head at and kick under the table.

But in the end the musical bond is strong enough to bring me back to learn and hopefully help someone looking for some answers.

I pulled out my Sonex after it sat in its case for a number of years. I wanted to learn about how Gibsons were made because this guitar needed some serious work done. I learned a lot from here. I'm still learning, which is a good thing. There are some brilliant people here.

The best part is that I found out about this thing called GAS! [biggrin]
