sandpiper
I have a Southern Jumbo, which is basically a J45. It currently is setup for 12's and I want to put 13's on it and tune down a 1/2 step. Should I anticipate any problems with this?
sandpiper
I should also say that I've been experiencing some fret buzz lately, so I am also hoping this may help with that a bit...
Gilliangirl
I have mediums on mine and sometimes have it tuned down 2 full steps. No problems. Did the fret buzz just start, despite no other changes? Mine does that sometimes when the seasons change. It usually clears itself up.
sandpiper
Great, thanks. I just put mediums on and it sounds great and doesn't seem to affect it's playability. I have definitely noticed the buzzing happened without changing anything. I did play in the mountains quite a bit this Summer and that could be a big part of it. Good to hear that is normal for these guitars and I certainly hope it will correct itself. It's mainly buzzing on the low E string when I use a capo. Not a huge deal as long as I'm playing smooth. Thanks!
Modac
You can absolutely use mediums on it....and you don't have to tune it down a step or a half step, either. As a matter of fact, most of the modern classics are braced so heavily, you could use bicycle chains on it, and not have to worry.
guitarstrummer
No problems with mediums. Also make sure your capo is snug. That might be causing the buzz if you notice it when the capo is used and the buzz is on one of the outside strings.
