anaconda
I went to guitar center to pick up a guitar i ordered. a silverburst Gibson SG Standard with Coil-Splitting . My link i was so excited to finnaly get one. but when i was looking over the guitar the first thing i noticed was all the scuffing of the plasic on the pic guard. the person who played or set it up at gibson must have has cat claw's. so i looked over the guitar for over five min. then there it was a nice gash in the 11th fret it was so bad the b string would hangup on it. has anyone had any simular experineces like this. any common problems.? i shoud look for. they are ordering me another

wranglerboy69
I picked mine up last week from GC. I ordered it on a Thursday and picked it up on a Wednesday so no issues there. I looked it over for about 15 to 20 minutes and found nothing but a slight bend in the neck. A quick adjustment it was perfect. Got her home and played for about 2 hours just running through all the diff sounds you can get from the coil taps. The next day I went to a friends and played there for about an hour and a half and all the sudden the bottom E string developed a BAD buzz when I played a open F. It would literally buzz out when I touched the string in the first fret. Somehow the bridge adjustment just went out. I adjusted it up a bit and havent had any problems sense. This really is a great guitar. The neck width is taking me a bit to get used too but I can now pick out notes on the fret board alot better and its actually helping my finger speed. No regrets here. Pickups are fine in these, and the coil taps are fun to mess around with. I'm a bit of a modder so after my next amp gets here I'm looking to put in some Bareknuckle Stormy Mondays, possible a Bigsby as well. They do come Plekd from the factory from what I have been told. Space Pup
Unless you waited for about three months, my guess is that the guitar was sent over from another GC store. Unfortunetly some guitars can get pretty abused hanging in GC. I would send it back and tell them to try again.
anaconda
Well i picked up the 2nd silverburst sg today. andi may be taking it back. i havent decided yet. both were shipped new from the gc warehouse. and factory sealed first off on the bottom edge of the guitar below the knobs. there is some small lines/scrthes side by side 5 or 6. about and inch or so long. i dont know what causes them but this is the 3rd sg i have seen it on . this one a black and 2 cherry's. its defintly a issue from the factory. 2nd the finish on the guitar were they painted the silver, I dont think they used enough paint you can clearly see the wood grain/porus under the top coat. but the back of the guitar looks flawless. maybe they didnt use enought silver paint or filler under the paint. and also a very small/tiny nick on the neck joint. Maybe someone who owns a black or differnt color sg can look at theres and tell me if the see a lot wood pours under the clearcoat. you dont seem to see it on a chery sg because they just stain and coat the heck out of them. i will try to get some pics up by tommorow. Minister Marz
To me it just sounds like the delivery service is at fault. I doubt that gibson would ship a damaged item on purpose. i.e. inspection stickers on the back of the neck. So I think it left the factory ok. The damage most likely occured on route to the store. Jeff-7
If it were me I'd probably tell them to take it back and refund the money. There's no call for paying for a brand new product and receiving 2 sub standard items. I must have gotten lucky with mine (GC as well). I've heard a lot of people say Sweetwater is great to deal with but they don't have that model. They're coming out with a gorgeous Pelham Blue model soon though. No inspection stickers were on either sg and to think about it i have never seen inspection stickers on a gibson. there was check list but they dont really llok to hard for sure. the finish problems are below the top coat so there is no shipping damage. anaconda
Well guys looks like the 3rd time is a charm after returning 2 others i finally got a good one. i cant believe there were so many problems. thanks to guitar center for the no hassle return service. but on another note when i was picking mine sg up. a fellow guitarist was returning a Gibson les Paul custom pro . a limited 1 of 50 trans blues. a guitarcenter excusive. he said he paid 3999.00 for it and the neck is crooked. i looked at it with the guitar center tech. and sure enough it was off centered slightly upward. i cant believe this happened to a custom shop guitar. just glad my ordeal is over. thanks guys
dem00n
Seeing the wood thing through the paint is well...normal in a sense. The guitars are hand painted which allows for all to be different , seeing that proves that it is.

Definitely worth it though. The neck issue on that LP is odd, I don't know how it could have made it past QC (especially in a Custom model) and out the door of GC and no one (including the buyer) were able to see that defect before he dropped 4 large on it. I'm a little skeptical on that one, it's more likely that the issue occurred after it had been in the customer's hands for a bit.

Thanks Jeff Yea i know i wouldnt have seen it if i wasnt showed it, by the guitar center tech. but he said some how the neck was set wrong. or some thing got routed out incorrect.
