JimiSublime
Good morning Players! I just can't understand it. What is it about the gold top finish. Everybody is so so excited about it and now they're releasing new deluxe in nitro gold top. So tell me guys why everyone wants that finish? I think it's one of the ugliest finishes ever in the history of electric guitars. No offence anyone, i love my worn honey burst and love Gibson guitars! - RG
martinh
How about an option of "not worn" on the poll. Call me an old fashioned reactionary, but I like guitars the way they were issued for most of history, with a nice clean shiny finish.

I keep my guitar shiny and would never buy one worn.
JimiSublime
I guess, i hit a nerve here :) if you buy a Les Paul that's $4000 i understand that you take care of the finish and caress it like your lady. But this guitar is for players who doesn't want to put that much money and still wants a Gibson made in USA. Now i understand why you want a gold top. The worn effect is not so obvious in gold top and you convince that you have a really expensive Les Paul. Nothing wrong with that though... Keep on playing! -RG
stein
I think one of the reasons for the popularity of the gold top finish for THIS particular guitar is the way it goes with the p-90's, and the fact that it has a plain top that does not get the same effect as the more expensive ones. So, with the gold top finish, you don't seem to be "missing" much for the price. Gibson might have hit a good nerve without realizing it as well. Not only have p-90's always been associated with the gold top, but the very first gold-tops (although with the trapeze bridge) did not have binding on all of them. As for the preference for the DELUXE in a gold top, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact the mini-humbuckers can be changed to a p-90, so then you have either a '56 style gold top or a deluxe. For most, p-90's on a burst might seem out of place. I don't think MOST prefer a gold top to other colors, but those that like gold-tops like THESE guitars more than most. I like the Goldtop on this model cause it's like the working man's (or woman's) '56 LP...
btoth76
Goldtop is the first color ever offered for LP. It's historic. Traditional. Original and wonderful in it's simplicity.

marantz1300
I had a new GT and dinged it.That one little mark stood out like a wart on the end og a nose.My 71 is worn, covered in marks and checked.I dont worry about adding more, just relax and play it. NoFrills
Is this for real? Pre-Worn look brand new Gibsons? Whats the point in that? To me it feels like cheating. You have to earn those dings, dents and scratches on the paint IMO. Although the first dent is always a hit to the gut. After that you will notice more and more will pop up and eventually you just don't care. BTW good looking gold top marantz.
MioAkiyama
Well I voted Worn Cherry Burst but I would ever buy a worn GT or let one get that way. I love wood and letting it get all beat up is doing it a terrible disrespect, not only to the wood but the guitar.

Gibson only came up with the worn satin finishes to cut back on finishing costs. Less filer, less nitro, less buffing, no clear. I personally don't care for the finishes because many of my guitars are less than a year old and they are all bald. Also, with the finish worn off the neck, I don't think I've ever seen a piece of wood so beat up on a guitarin all my life.
