So this topic doesn't have anything to do with guitars, but I need some help.

I love art, and used to draw all the time but for some reason I stopped....Im a graphic design student, so I design but I haven't

just drawn for myself in a long time and am scared of losing the talent.

So I want to get back into drawing, however problem is, I have no idea on what to draw...usually I would draw things out of the ordinary, so things that wouldn't usually go together would, or I would just alter the normal, a little wierd but I like art that is a little out there.

Question is does anyone have any ideas on what I could draw..

In need of some inspiration..

and I thank you in advance for any suggestions..

If I could draw and paint better OR if I was dam rich, I would fill my house with paintings by Malcolm Bucknall. He did a lot of the cover art for The Jesus Lizard. His work tends to blend the very serious with the surreal, a family portrait with one of the family having an animal head. I love it.

I had a private art instructor for awhile that helped me out with things like this. She would have me draw shapes, lines, curves and pretty much anything abstract. The trick was to not think about what you were drawing, just fill the page. I found that doing this was a great way to get the creativity flowing and to get back in gear, you could say. And I actually came up with some pretty cool abstract pen drawings. After awhile I would hide objects among them for people to find. At one point she wanted me to do this exercize without looking at the paper. HA! What a disaster that was.

I don't do drawing or paintings, but I had a great idea some time ago that I think would be great. (forgive the long explanation though).

I was at the beach years ago with my GF at the time, and we brought the kids and dog. It was a beachfront motel of about 4 stories high, with all the rooms having balconies and glass so every room had a view of the beach. Some take pets, some don't.

The dog used to sit and stare out the window with fascination, ears perked up, just amazed.

While taking an evening stroll along the beach, I looked up at our hotel, and in many rooms I could see silhouetted against the light from the rooms many dogs staring out, ears perked up. Lots of dog ears staring out the windows, fascinated with the beach.

Sometimes people complain that hotels and resorts destroy the landscape and the natural beauty of the coastline. But, for one brief moment there, I could see (and feel) all at once, people from all different parts and different lives, all gathered in one place for a weekend of fun, a weekend of memories, and a weekend of awe and beauty of the coastline. The sights of the dog's ears perked up through the windows was an illustration of the thoughts and feelings of what all must be feeling in their hearts and minds.

I thought I would like to do a painting and call it "fun at the beach", and have that snapshot of the hotel there with all the dog's looking out from random rooms, ears perking up, representing all the memories we all feel during a trip to the beach.

The thing I admire about art is the point it can make, and the feelings it can create. To me, the advantage of a painting (or drawing) is the artist can make it any way they want to express the things we often miss in real life.

Get on a big art site like Deviant art or even Etsy and look at what other artists are doing, pretty soon you'll be thinking I like that idea but I would have done it like this and your off. Another way to get solid motivation is to just grab a Moleskine and a handful of drawing pencils and head out into the world pretty soon you'll see a pattern or a angle you can't help but draw.

Hell I suffer from the opposite, right now I have so many projects I want to do I'm having trouble finishing stuff...
