tweed2
I've talked about raising P-90s several times, in different threads. It's not a difficult or irreversible thing to do. You don't have to remove your strings or disconnect your pickups. The best source that I've found for the shims is Jason Lollar. Everyone there (Jason rarely answers the phone anymore, too busy) is very knowlegable. Email or call them and tell them what pickup your trying to raise. I believe he has both black and creme rings, you'll have to decide which will look better. The black ones come in different thicknesses, creme only .1", but they can be stacked. Biltoft also carries shims that work well on stock P-90s. Watch buying shims from other sources, I've found that some shims aren't even close to the same shape as a stock p-90 and look cheesy installed. Past experience tells me that you'd be raising the neck pickup more than the bridge. My guess would be .1" for the bridge and the next available size for the neck. Look here for shim info and available thicknesses. http://www.lollarguitars.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=p90-dogear-sizing-notes All you have to do is remove the mounting screws, slide the pickup through the shim, reset in place and reinstall the screws. Should take 10-15 minutes. A couple of bucks for the shims. I've done this twice now and I do think that the factory sets the regular Casino pickups too low. I can't vouch for the Rev models, as I've never had the fortune to even play one. Think about it. Call Lollar and ask their advise. His website has a great tutorial on adjusting PU height, too. Good luck and enjoy that guitar.

bobouz
Interestingly, on the current Gibson ES-330L, they are delivered with a shim already placed under the bridge P90 to achieve a position that is fairly close to the strings.
osroubek
How close to the strings do you think the bridge and neck pickup should be on the IBJL casino? I do not believe there is any rule but what would most people like to see?
tweed2
How close to the strings do you think the bridge and neck pickup should be on the IBJL casino? I do not believe there is any rule but what would most people like to see? I don't know if there's an accepted height. My Casino could be different in that I'm using Vintage Vibe pickups with different magnets than Epiphone uses. But, as an example, measured at the edges (E & E strings), mine are shimmed to 1/8" bridge and just under 3/16" neck. So it would be a hair more in the middle due to the bridge and neck radius. I then fine adjusted each pole from there. You may also hear an effect from the metal PU covers on yours where mine are plastic. The amount of winds on the PU will also come into play, as will string material, to a certain extent. Lots of variables. If you're interested in finding out what height works best on your guitar before ordering shims, loosen the PU mounting screws and shim between the PU and the body with strips of match book covers or some kind of thin, dense cardboard, then snug the screw back down. You'll find a sweet spot (which may be no shim at all) and then will know what to order if that's what you want to do. You may be surprised at how much different the PU can sound.
