onewilyfool
There are so many varieties of "Les Paul" ......I am thinking of buying a used one available localy....a Les Paul Special in TV yellow. New these are about 750 bucks. My question is this....is this guitar a "beginner" Les paul....will I need to move up to a better model? I am coming from the acoustic side of Gibson, so am not familiar with all the electrics. what would a good used price be for the Les Paul SPecial? Can anyone tell me how much one of these wieghs and which Les Paul is the lightest???? Thanks...
harmonicchaos
the les paul special was most likely designed as a starter priced instrument, but so was the les paul jr. and look at all of the well known players that use that guitar. i think if you buy that guitar you'll prolly be as happy with it ten years from now as you would be with it now. that being said you can always buy a more expensive guitar later. you can also modify the guitar as your musical tastes develop and grow more over the years. i don't think (as long as you get a good guitar and make sure there's nothing wrong with it) you'll regret getting it. it's a gibson and it's made to last and sound great regardless of the price. i personally almost the double cutaway model but i ended up going with a les paul vintage mahogany which is an excellent guitar and you should definitely try it out. i got it for 750.00$ u.s. new from guitar center last october. as for used price, it depends on the condition of the guitar. i'd expect a range of 500.00- 700.00 dollars depending on what kind of shape the guitar is and how old it is. i probably wouldn't pay any more than 625.00 even if it was mint. remember you can always try to haggle. if i remember correctly the special weighed around 6 to seven pounds. my vintage mahogany weighs about 8lbs on my bathroom scale. the special is going to be one of the lighter gibsons along with the melody maker, jr. ,bfg, and the vintage mahogany. if you have any more questions, feel free to ask! i hope i helped. good luck venturing into the "plugged in" world. Thundergod
Why not a melody maker? there´s a 2 pickup model right now... and it is $400 or less... its a beautiful guitar and sounds great, it started too as a learing/begginers guitar, but ended up being one of gibson´s classics. I so want one... will get one as soon as i get to the states.
