Tim Plains Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Don't think this one's been covered... Please keep in mind that this is just a topic of discussion. If I say I don't like something, I'm just stating my preference...that's all. I love silverburst Customs...but if you absolutely hate them and think that's the worst finish in the world, that's cool. What are a few things you don't like about Gibson Les Pauls? Anything at all... Finishes, chambering, pick guards, pickups, etc. Let's not get into the whole chambering argument...or what's better or worst...just what you dislike about ceratin guitars. Personally... I don't like uncovered double white pickups. Cherryburst Customs with gold hardware. There's more, but I'll wait and see where this goes...
ALIEN8 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 +1 GOLD HARDWARE = CHEAP especailly on white lp's
renin74 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I also don't like cherryburst customs with gold hardware, I have thought though they might look good with nickel hardware though...anyone with pics?
deepblue Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 WOW!...This will be a topic! lol As Tim stated, these are MY opinions so dont take it personal. I hate the bumpy unfinished looking part of the guitar body where the neck joins the guitar. The 16th fret all the way up to the 22nd. Look on each side of the neck. Its a part where the sander cant reach and it looks terrible. Some are worse then others. Not cool on a high end guitar. I hate SG's...I said it. Im sure they are great guitars, but when I see one I think of that hack Angus Young, and know AC/DC have a huge fan base, but come on....Every album sounds the same, with the same 3 chords. I wasnt a big fan of the BFG model....It reminded me of the Flintstones. What were they thinking? Thats enough for now...Im sure ill think of more later! lol
Bluemoon Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I hate the bumpy unfinished looking part of the guitar body where the neck joins the guitar. The 16th fret all the way up to the 22nd. Look on each side of the neck. Its a part where the sander cant reach and it looks terrible. Some are worse then others. Not cool on a high end guitar. +1 yeah' date=' what the hell is up with that. Why can't Gibson resolve the issue? I don't get why it such a problem to fix it. Why does Gibson have this problem but no other manufacturer? Mine isn't bad, but it is annoying. I can't help but look at it every time I play. Pisses me off. I don't dislike the concept of the Robot guitar...but the name sucks. Is that the best they could do? Sounds cheap to me. If it was a true Robot guitar you should be able to put it down and watch it walk across the floor, open the case and put itself to bed [or in Deepblue's case get into bed with him']
AXE® Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Access to the upper register blows. Hit and miss quality. <---this covers soooo many areas I don't wish to get into, but we all know. Too damn expensive. Not enough cow bell !!!
Tom99SS Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 The short pickup rings they use on the Gibson USA Les Pauls. Way not use the normal height ones like the re-issues/historics. Guess that is why I changed my out.
CajunBlues Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 The nut spacing on my new 2007 les paul zebrawood was uneven... Shame on you Gibson... Pretty much embarrasing to have that kind of defect on a $1800 guitar... I don't like gold hardware... but it seems to work ok on my black beauty custom LP...
Les Paul Fanatic Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 -1000 on weight the heavier the better for me. I like my guitars heavy. +1000 on the pickup rings. The short ones just don't do it for me, I took all the rings off my guitars and set taller rings on it. Pickups are eh in the middle course that's a diy project so.
Wolff Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I can't stand natural wood finishes and any gold hardware on any guitar.
durtyDevil Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I don't like black pick guards on sunburts I don't care for gold hardware And I don't like tops with too much flame
guitar_randy Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Access to the upper fret board 498t pickups in me studio thats all I can come up with
T50 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Don't like: the strap buttons 2 piece body on some models toggle switch ring difficult access to the upper frets headstock and fret inlays on Supremes Tun-o-metic saddle tailpiece set off the body way too high forcing players to waring strings around it Kluson tuners poor fret inlay job on some LPs pickguard come installed new black cases, especially the custom ones
elessar820 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Plastic jack plates are just way too flimsy for a Gibson or any guitar for that matter. I was never a huge fan of the square and trapezoid inlays, it's just too much. I don't mind the trapezoids too much, but I'd prefer dots, a single inlay or none. I like the color options on LP's but I'd like some more choices like blues and greens.
ChanMan Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 The edge where my arm crosses the body could be tapered a bit for comfort. I am not a fan of the green tuners. They look cheap to me and the green is an ugly shade. That is it. I LOVE everything else!
Flight959 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Here are my dislikes, 1. Price. 2. Too much variety in the Les Paul model. There are too many variations. 3. Gold Hardware 4. Supreme models headstock's look too bling! 5. the shitty finish between the NUT and the Headstock. Flight959
Rick Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 price les paul studio, i hate it natural finish, the worse finish dot inlays....they seems cheap, on all guitars, mine too
Mark Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Gold hardware for me too, It lasts a year. tops. Avaliability All the copies ( I am afraid to buy one unless I go to GC )
iownanlps Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Gold hardware for me too' date=' It lasts a year. tops.Avaliability All the copies ( I am afraid to buy one unless I go to GC )[/quote'] - 10 Loving the gold hardware, wear and tear = mojo.
ask28 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 expense of fret work due to bound neck. the black finish on the back of my standard desertburst strap locks not being included. the combination lock on the case. Has anyone actually stolen a guitar without the case? I have been the only one locked out of my case.
iownanlps Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Well I don't care what anyone says about the Supreme, I love it, all my friends love it. javascript:insertsmiley(':-"%20','/images/emoticons/eusa_whistle.gif') I really don't care much for; Les Paul Studio Not enough Bling he he!
SRV-Zeppelin Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Dislikes: Dot inlays- just don't belong on an LP. If you want dots, get a Strat. Goldtops- yes, I said it. the finish just doesn't do it for me. I'm sure they're beautiful to play, I just don't like the colour. single coil pickups- LPs were meant to have humbuckers. sorry Tim, but that makes 2 strikes against your R4... Kluson tuners- go with grover or green keys. Neutrik Jack- is this a joke? If you want a futuristic-looking LP, buy a Robot guitar.... Aged guitars- Nothing against Mr. Murphy, but I'd rather beat up my own guitars, thank you very much. I think that about sums it up... I still love LPs, they're by far my favourite guitar model.... ever. I'm just a bit picky, that's all. Well I don't care what anyone says about the Supreme' date=' I love it, all my friends love it. [/quote'] I think Supremes are great, iownanlps. those flame patterns are to die for... although I would prefer an R9.
