cirruslogic
Hi everyone. All help is appreciated. The SN is impressed (kinda) and is 889074 as best I can tell. and as best I can figure it is a 1967, maybe 68 SG Junior. What is throwing me off is the pick guard. It seems ivory colored and has the same patina as the tuners but it has a shape like I have not seen in examples. Also has a switch, do not know if that is a mod or not, humbucker seems to have the same patina as other ivory color, but do not know if it is original. Also three holes in it looks like it may have had a tremolo at one time. thanks
BigKahune
. You're right. Here's a 67 with the trem your's probably originally had - . . . . . . . . . . . . http://everythingsg.com/index.php/junior.html Your's has been modded - trem removed and a bucker installed. Looks right on the money. OP's guitar is definitely modded.
cirruslogic
OK, well let me ask this. since it has been modded, and the p90 took out, pick guard more than likely aftermarket to accommodate the humbucker. the body is a 6or7 out of 10 I would say. Will have to fill in the hole where the aftermarket switch is, etc.... Is it worth restoring? is it possible to restore, seriously would i have to go find some old parts are would just going back to gibson and buy new parts? Would the value now + the cost to make it spec be significantly less than the value after a restore? Would hate to go through the trouble to restore it to find out that it is not worth much more than it is now. Thanks for the responses.
BigKahune
. IMO the money in a guitar like that would be "all original". If the previous owner had kept the original parts in the case, you'd be in good shape. As it is, the maestro trem is $110 at AllParts - http://www.allparts.com/Short-Gibson-Style-Nickel-Vibrato-p/tp-3683-001.htm - the soapbar 90 is about $110 - http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/P90B/Original-Gibson-P90-Soap-Bar---Black.html - the bridge $23 - http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_tailpieces/Electric_guitar,_non-trem_bridges/SG_Junior_Bridge.html - So it's gonna be a bit of money for the hardware. Then there's a new pickguard. But, if you do a nice job with all the Gibson parts you can find you might get over $1000. Here's a 68 with your setup - http://www.ebay.com/itm/GIBSON-USA-SG-JUNIOR-ELECTRIC-GUITAR-VINTAGE-1968-/150636013622?pt=Guitar&hash=item23129b2836 - BIN is $2199.
