SUPPLY DELAYS FOR HCB FINISHED TRADITIONAL PLUS' ???

Hoping a forum administrator can chime in here and state why there seems to be a longer delay for this

particuliar finish and model. Have received SIX (6) different ship dates from my "sales engineer" at Sweetwater

since the order was placed Four (4) months ago this past July. Not really all that upset and understand the supply

vs. demand thing and also the extra time for the Plek job, but paying for something I just don't have is gettin' a

little old! If ya' know what I mean!!! Don't get me wrong, I've got plently more in the stable to play, hence the

log in name. Anyway, I just find it rather odd that I've only seen one heritage cherry burst finished Traditional

since their not so availiable introduction. That particuliar one was here and gone in a matter of hours at Wildwood

Guitars in CO. Even my local corporate giant GC store is baffled! The only problem that concerns me most, with my

luck, will be a terrible "clown burst" application of the finish or worse yet a broken neck! At 45 I've enjoyed my fair

share of these guitars and have been fortunate enough to be able to hang on to a few "handpicked" keepers so to

speak. Now that I have "rolled the dice" and have put myself in a "blind faith" sitiation of sorts, may my patronage

be well rewarded! Amen...

I'm sure it is driving you nuts, as I would be equally so.

That's it... just letting you know you have a sympathetic ear :)

You could always pass the time by posting pics of your stable....

(and +1 on the Traditionals. I have yet to see/play one)

I ordered a 08 Standard (the old style version) in HCS in march. I didn't get it until the end of May. I guess Gibson does the paint jobs in batches. Also, they were just installing the plek machines on the factory floor and that held up production.

Thanks for the replies guys! ChanMan, thanks for the sympathetic ear! My home PC bit the dust and I've

been checking several times a day since I first placed the order using my PC here at work. Even the obvious

sites like ebay and gbase in addition to Wildwood and Sweetwater who illustrate the inventory with actual

pics have had very few in the other finishes offered as well. As for some of the others I enjoy, my favorites

include several Custom Shop Historics such as the newer Page model, unfortunatley not one of the signed

ones, a beautiful "burbonburst" '58 paul, a super nice '62 which is actually of course a SG, a Murphy aged

'59 and a real nice naturally aged '2002 light burst std before the USA shop got carried away with weight

relieving, and a late '2006 studio plus that I refer to as my "blondeburst". Thats pretty much it for Gibby's,

with the exception of a vintage '57 custom and a '82 30th anniversary light back gold top I regretabally

let go...

Bluemoon, your "old style version" is the Traditional model I'm patiently waiting for. Again I hope the one

that ships has a nice authentic HCS finish. That in itself would be worth the wait!!!

Thanks again, guys!

R9, are you refering to the lastest std with the floyd Rose tremelo? When bluemoon made mention of the Plek

machines I understood his to be Plek'ed as well. To my knowledge Gibson just this year started offering the Plek

treatment with the introduction of the 2008 standard (elliptical neck design) and the Traditional models...

Of course I'm speaking of the usa plant and not the custom shop...

And yes patience is a virtue of mine also being an avid fisherman as well as a fellow R9 & R8 owner. But thanks for

for the reminder!=D>

No, I believe R9 is referring to the 2008 Les Paul Standard, not the Les Paul Axcess. The 2008 standards are different than the old one in that hey do not have plek'd frets or a neutrik jack. Check out the following link for the difference:

http://www.gibson.com/en%2Dus/divisions/gibson%20usa/products/lespaul/

Notice how there is both Standard and 2008 Standard...

When Bluemoon said an "old style 08 std" he is referring to an Old Standard built in 2008, as the "2008 Standard" model was not released until this past August, therefore if you ordered a Les Paul std built in 2008 before August you would receive an old style std.

Right. Mine is one of the last Standards made before they switched to the new design. It is basically a traditional, but mine is chambered. Yours is weight relieved with swiss cheese-like holes--which makes it slightly heavier, but has arguably a better tone.

When I ordered mine, Gibson was putting the plek machines to use on the newer models. Mine isn't pleked, but it was delayed due to the disruption that the new machines caused.

I ordered mine sight unseen (which is a gamble). The tone is great and so is the finish. here is a better photo to hold you over for an hour or two. The tiger stripes appear in certain lights. It is kind of interesting how they change due to light conditions.

WOW! Bluemoon, That has got to be one of the nicest tops and finish application I can remember seeing on

a USA standard production guitar. I've seen custom shops that would pale in comparison... Looks like a keeper

to me, especially if the tone and resonance is as nice as the top. The guitar gods definatley came through for ya'

on that one. VERY NICE! Thanks for sharin'.... Back to prayin'.

Talk about MOJO!

I was so nervous when I received my guitar in the mail. I had no idea how it was going to look or sound. It was a huge gamble because I bought it from a independent store that probably wouldn't take it back. I am not sure I would do that way again.

The angle on the bottom pic looks like a plain top. The stripes almost completely disappear.
