Excellent clean. Never played dirty. I used a '98 LP Standard, bridge pickup and it sounded great.

I don't own the amp... but this just happened to be a combination I tried when I was shopping for my LP.

I'm sure with your gear you won't have any trouble finding a great tone!

Man more than one cajun on this board ?? Look out people.... Lots of Bon Temps Roulliez

Anyway, I used to own a twin reverb... What can I say... Fender tube amps were made for Gibson humbucker guitars.... And the twin reverb has beautiful tone and stays clean forever.... Perfect choice for a les paul...

I got rid of mine because it was simply too hot... I live in Phoenix.... And it made my practice room insanely hot... Its also too heavy... But the tone is to die for....

I gig with a Fender Blues Deluxe.... That is plenty powerful enough.... I use a Fender Blues Junior now in my practice room...

Another Phoenix resident, there are at least 4 others here in the valley of the sun. What part of town do you live?

And I concur with your assessment on the Blues Deluxe, I really love the way they sound.

I remember back in the late 70's/early 80's they weren't that heavy.

Now they seem REAL heavy.

Murph.

Hahahhaah... Maybe you are just getting older and it seems heavier... I remember when I was a kid in Boston the snow was always up to my chest. Now that doesn'r happen very often.... ;-)

My original '72 silverface Twin is ~78 lb. I think. Bought new. At the time, we thought it was as close as we could get short of the proverbial Marshall stack to the BluesBreakers tone. Or anything Duane Allman was doing. That was the trend we were following if we had family/college to keep us from the big rigs. So as far as I am concerned, your answer is "classic late-'60's electric blues".

I use a Twin. Took me 16 amps to figure this out. The best clean ever. I use a Boss Keeley Blues Driver, Fulltone OCD, and sometimes a Xotci AC booster. Les Pauls and this amp kicks ***. Simple.

The Vox ac 30 is heavier. The Princeton 65 is my next one for small use.

PS

hard to get clean .easy to get dirt.

+1

That was my selection criterion. If I couldn't get a decent clean tone,

accurate across the playing spectrum, the box wasn't coming home.

The Twin in my day was my purest source of tube tone for blues. YMWV.

Trust YOUR ears. They feed YOUR brain, and that's what drives YOUR satisfaction.

Most good stores will leave you alone and let you work on "sampling the wares"

without much distraction. And try it on two or three different days, too.

Friday evening, Sunday afternoon, etc.

Sidebar: I always found it was worth at least $50 of a price diff (paying more) to buy from the

store that was providing me the better service. Then they try other things to keep you as a repeat customer, going that extra mile when you need it.... Of course if you live 100's of miles from the nearest one, that's not a practical idea....
