Flame tops vs Plain tops?

tough choice, really!

there are plain top with very distinctive and lovely natural grain

and flamed top too much figured, almost distracting...

but, IMHO, if the flame is the right one, specially if wide

(personally I don't like pinstripes) ... =D> ... you can't beat it!

When I bought my LP in 1975, they were not making any flame-tops, they were all plain-tops, so I had no choice. If given the choice I would have bought a flame-top. The one I did buy does have some nice grain, but could hardly be called "figured" or "flamed".

Somehow the plain tops seem more tradtional to me and it's what comes in my mind when I think of Jimmy Page, but, as others have said, the flametops can be so beautiful - almost something quite different.
