James Reay
I recently purchase a Studio Paul from Guitar Center and while it's one heck of a instrument, it's a bit hard to play due to the #6 E height off the fretboard. I think a patron may have screwed with the adjustment of the Tune-o-Matic bridge. So, my question is: Would you folks please measure the 1st and 6th string height off the top of the last fret, preferably using a caliper, and report back. Thanks. James Reay
This was a bad question to ask so ignore it please. The new Q is: What is the best method of setting the string height? BigKahune
. Base side . . . right? Lower the base side of the bridge until your action is more where you like it. Re-tune, check for buzzing - if so raise the side of the bridge nearest the string that's buzzing. Here' the Gibson factory spec - 1st fret- treble side - 1/64" 1st fret- bass side - 2/64" 12th fret- treble side - 3/64" 12th fret - bass side - 5/64"
James Reay
Thank you very much. All is well with the world now. The instrument was messed with. Base E measured .1035" off 12th fret and Treble E measured .059 . Base side . . . right? Lower the base side of the bridge until your action is more where you like it.
