MarcoRuna
Hi, I'm Marco and I'm italian, so sorry for my english. I finally decided to buy my first Gibson. The questions are many and for this I ask some advice / help to you. My current guitar is an Epiphone ES-335 DOT. The prices (too much) of the Gibson ES-335 have prompted me to evaluate the Gibson Les Paul Studio. I tried it once and I was not disappointed. What I would like to ask you of the forum is the difference between - GIBSON LES PAUL STUDIO WORN BROWN LIMITED - GIBSON LES PAUL STUDIO PRO PLUS RV you counsel or some other variant of the les paul studio. Thanks in advance anyone who wants to advise me. thanks marco
btoth76
Hello Marco! Both instruments are chambered: they have hollow bodies to minimize weight. The bridge pickup is Burstbucker Pro in both guitars, while in the neck position the Worn Brown has Burstbucker Pro and the Pro Plus has 490R. Burstbuckers have more traditional sound than the 490s. The pickups in the Pro Plus both are splitable into single-coils with push-pull volume pots, which option makes it a more versatile guitar than the other. The Pro Plus has a faster (thinner) neck profile, while the Worn Brown has rounder, fatter, which is great if You have big hands. The Plus Pro has no pickguard, which is not a bad thing in this case, since the guitar has a very nice glossy, figured finish, which is worth showing off. In the case of Worn Brown - which is less attractive as far as finish is concerned -, it is a convenient thing to have a pickguard to avoid scratching the surface of the guitar during playing it. These are the most important aspects. In overall I would say the Pro Plus is a better choice, since it gives You more sound variations, and has a nicer finish, (I only wish it had the fatter 50's style neck). But it's up to You to devide which one fits Your needs better. You should also try other Studios as well: 50's or 60's Tributes are great instruments at a very nice price, and the P-90 pickups are fantastic! Good luck for Your quest! Cheers...
