Help Identifying a Vintage Acoustic

Hi, Im new to the forum, and I have some questions regarding a guitar I bought last night. It is an LG sized guitar, but I do not believe it is an LG. The serial number dates it to 1964, the entire thing is mahogany, and the finish is brown. There is a red tortise shell colored binding on the top only. No back, neck, or headstock binding. The bridge is plastic (getting replaced with ebony) and it has a red pickguard. It is also ladder braced. Any idea what it could be? I should be able to post pictures tomorrow, if I can find my memory card.

Thanks in advance for any help

-John

Hello John, and welcome. Mahogany top, ladder braced, LG size sounds like an LG-O, which Gibson began making in 1958. The only thing that doesn't fit is the lack of binding on the back. The book Gibson's Fabulous Flatops describes it as having red tortise shell binding on top and back. Still, I would bet LG-O.

Wow thanks for your help! I just googled Lg-0' date=' and it looks identical.

On a sidenote, this guitar feels awesome. I cant wait to get the bridge replaced and start playing it!

Thanks again

Your welcome. I have no first hand experience with the plastic bridges, but have heard that they were tone suckers. I'd love to hear your take on it once the bridge is replaced. A few pics would be good too. Congratulations on your guitar. I've always wanted a mahogany top.
