Jantha
It was an awesome record.. and a total game changer. I remember hearing Smells Like Teen Spirit for the first time and thinking, "Thank you God". By 1991 I'd had my fill of hair metal.

Lammas Day
Not many people really appriciate how important Nirvana and Nevermind were to popular culture, people forget before Nirvana, the coolest looking people in rock at the time were fvcking Guns UNNNN Roses. They looked like a bunch of fvucking gay pirates But Nirvana brought back to the world the effortless natural cool, to music and to style. If it wasn't for them it'd still be all pouting, posturing and back combing. BUNCH OF ARSE
Duende
I can't believe it is 20 years ago! Nirvana were such a special band and are probably one of my top 10 favourite rock bands - and yes, I am glad they changed music like they did. AlanH
I like the Nevermind album, although the earlier Bleach was better IMO. The grunge thing happened for a few years, just like punk but metal keeps coming back. IMO, the thrash metal bands of the '80s have had a much bigger influence on the current scene than grunge. So much so they're all reforming in their original line ups after grunge killed them off for a while. So eat this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UELw018TYtc

Yep, Once the NWOBHM bands had to "experiment" to keep up with glam metal Thrash Metal kept strong but Nirvana and Nevermind brought a needed change by then, too bad they did not last that long and the 90's plunged into a decade without much of a true musical identity. Hell even Metallica put on a few diluted albums to keep up with the taste of the decade. Out of the subject but I loved Pearl Jam when they came out and frankly I never thought they would last but I was wrong, out of that era they are the band that lasted. Silenced Fred
Favorite Nirvana song: Very glad that Nevermind came out, and glad that it rocked as hard as it did. Word. Lithium and Blew are my favorite Nirvana songs. ever. Oh, and Marigold, but that's just a kickass song Dave wrote, and I don't think it ever made a CD, I think it was a bonus on a deluxe edition or something like that
2lambchops
someone said it "game changer". i think i was too old when this came out to apriciate it. i never liked their music at all. but i acknowledge their importance to music. too bad that kurt couldn't.with all the fans that they have today there's no telling what they could have done. it wasn't meant to be.like others that left too soon. EVOL!
A classic record that changed my approach to songwriting and guitar playing. Every time I hear songs from it, it takes me back to high school. While I love the song on Nevermind more, I think In Utero was a more accurate sonic representation of the band. A lot of albums like Nevermind suffered from too much polish. Sonic Youth's Goo is another. Pearl Jam's Ten is the worst, production wise. That light digital reverb on everything is so annoying. Makes the music mushy.

In Utero is probably my favourite record from them. The polish on the album to make stuff "radio friendly" irritates me quite a bit. Pearl Jam's is the worst, I have to agree, but I also want to stab Eddie Vedder in the throat every time I hear a Pearl Jam acoustic song
Morkolo
I can appreciate what Nirvana meant to a lot of people but I guess I'm among the minority who never really enjoyed any of their music. When it comes to grunge give me Soundgarden or Alice In Chains any day, and Pear Jam's Ten.

Riffster
grunge bands still playing: Alice in Chains Melvins Stone Temple Pilots I hear you, I think you may have misunderstood my simple comment. Alice In Chains took a hiatus for a while, Stone Temple Pilots were broken up for a while, (do you know Velvert Revolver?) the Melinvs are for the early 80's. All I said is that Pearl Jam is the band from the Grunge movement that lasted and I did not expect that, I was wrong. It is really simple. I am sure there are other bands but please do not read too much into my comment, Tool? when we are talking about Grunge? sorry, not sure what to say.
