i owe already an SG reissue bass for 2 reasons

1. short scale suits me better

2. deep bass sound

as a great fan of Cream's and Mountain's sound i was wondering whether GIBSON plans an originla EBO and EB2 EB3 reissues...especially those violin shaped basses that Felix Pappalardi used to play with

i hope that Gibson USA will pay the proper attention to this issue

Hi Paul; I'm another Big fan of the Cream, Mountain sound. And would love to see the real EB1 my buddy Felix P. played.

Also a big fan of Felix & Bruce, I have an EB-1 reissue, but would love an original. They are way expensive! This one is one of the lower priced basses I've seen lately.

I would love to see an EB-2 reissue, but I already have one, so I'm biased. I probably wouldn't buy one unless something happened to the one I already have, but knowing there's the possibility of a new one would let me play the old one with a bit more abandon.

I do not think we will ever see a Gibson Bass again with the original Mudbucker PickUp, All reissues of the EB line will as now have the TB+ pickup. I am the proud owner of a EB-2 from 1968 and a SG Standard Bass from 2010. I can make the SG sound very close to the EB-2 Mudbucker if I run the Bass true a Tech 21 VT Bass Pedal and fiddle with the tone knob, and I must say that the TB+ pickup sounds much better than the Mudbucker, It is a very useful sound and the SG with the bridge pickup and the right blend can sound very close to yours and my heroes Bruce and Pappalardi If I use the VT Bass pedal and as the added bonus I also have the great sound from the SG when I run it Clean.

I think the reissues will only be about appearance which is OK but sound wise there will be no big difference from the SG Standard Bass if they make a EB-2 or EB-1

You can hear my SG Bass sound if you click the myspace link in signature.

Just my thoughts

My EB-2 is also a 1968. It shed it's mudbucker sometime before I got it, almost 30 years ago. The bridge pickup is still stock, but the neck pickup is a Dimarzio One. It sounds amazing, especially through a vintage Acoustic 361.

A few months back on the Epiphone web site they said that R&D had acquired a 60s era Rivoli bass that they are studying for a possible reissue

They did a Rivoli reissue in the 90's. They do like nice but I haven't looked into how they compare to the originals.

I totally want an EB-1. Norm's Rare Guitars sold one this summer, extremely good original condition with case and stand for somewhere upwards of $6500. I'd also like to see a period correct EB-3 instead of these bastardized versions they keep throwing out, yeah, mudbucker, and a real Vari-tone. I wouldn't mind if they upgraded the bridge to modern standards -- shouldn't be too hard to keep it cosmetically correct. Still love and play my slot-neck '71 EB-0, though it's been messed with a lot (bridge bolted directly to body with metal instead of plastic inserts, added EB-3 bridge pickup (with three way toggle), mudbucker swapped out for diMarzio Model One with fairly useless microswitch which I assume is a coil tap). Original mudbucker is somewhere in garage, with rats no doubt eating the wire insulation. Had it since new, so, 40 years now. When you're young, you do bad things to your guitars.
