Where are the 50th Anniversary 12 String SGs?!?

This thing was announced a long time ago and I have been patiently waiting since June for someone online to actually have one in stock to purchase. Did Gibson send them all out to retail stores or something? Every online retailer has been saying it's coming within weeks only to have the date pushed back when it gets close. The latest pushback is now in January 2012.

WTH is going on here? I have been playing this frustrating game of guitar tease for 4 months, and some people obviously have them, so they must be out there somewhere. WHAT'S THE TRICK?

i placed a pre-order with American Musical Supply in early August and it was in my hands by 13 September. i heard later that i was #11 on a list of 16 guitars they were promised. i'm pretty sure Sweetwater was also in on this shipment from a conversation i also had with them. both were listed with the identical $1469, standard discounted, no tax, free shipment.

being my first electric in over 20 years i don't have a lot to compare it to, but it's certainly providing all the entertainment & enjoyment i expected and more.

good luck...gary

Thanks for the tip! I just pre-ordered one from Sweetwater, so I guess it will just get here when it gets here...

I got mine today. I got it from Sam Ash, the only one they had. I love it. I played it for about 4 hours straight. I originally ordered it from guitar center in May. I got one in August and it was kind of messed up, so I sent it back. I ordered another. They pushed it all the way to 12/30/11, so I went searching and found it at Sam Ash.

edited my response above. i mixed up that price with the '61 reissue discount, but $1469 is now correct for what i paid.

by the way, while it's on my mind i thought i'd warn you about the only downside of this purchase. what on earth is that obnoxious "new case" smell? i left mine open in the garage for a week before it went away.

also, ...looks good now, but historically me and white colored (uncolored?) things rarely get along for long.

cheers...gary

It looks like you have George Lopez and Gene Simmons checking out the gear behind you haha

Well you have a brand new guitar with newly cut wood, glue from joint and veneer work, as well as a fresh coat of nitro going into a case with about 2 square feet of available airspace surrounded with a liner that absorbs pretty much any smell it comes into contact with. It's kind of a mix, I love that smell :) Way better than new car smell imo. SGs are the only guitar I like with a white finish.

  • 1 month later...

OK, I am now officially done with Gibson. I ordered the 12 string SG back in September and just found out that Gibson has pushed the ship date all the way back to March 2012.

F that - order canceled. It is a shame that this once great guitar company has deteriorated to the point where they are pushing gimmick robot computer guitars instead of crafting my 12 string SG.

Goodbye Gibson.
