Hec Paul
Hi everyone, this is my first post, so please excuse me if this has been covered before, but I've just bought a brand new Nighthawk in honeyburst finish, and to my surprise, it's a really amazing guitar, what I mean is that I knew it would be good, but not this good. The finish is just incredible, not unlike my LP Special, and it plays and sounds pretty damn good, well with my limited skills anyway!! The neck is great, nice inlays, stunning flame top and a well matched mahogany back, Grover tuners, nice binding, average pots and switch but the pups all sound great. I always tinker around with my guitars, setting them up etc and having a twiddle with anything on them that can be twiddled!!!, even ones I've only had a short while, but while I was checking out to see if the pups had any ID marks on them, I came across a label in the bridge pup route which says some stuff about the guitar, i.e. LTD ED NIGHTHAWK CUSTOM REISSUE HONEYBURST, GIBSON JAPAN, some numbers, a bar code, the guitars serial No and another bar code etc. I'm really just wondering what's the score with the mention of Gibson Japan?, even though the guitar had a made in Indonesia label on the back of the headstock. What's curious about the label is that it's been applied to the wood before the finish has been sprayed on, so where was it finished, made etc? It's such a nice guitar to look at and play, even though it's about a quarter of the price on a new Gibson Nighthawk 2010, I actually think it looks better than those. Anyway, if someone can shed a bit of light on my query, I just like to know as much about my guitars as I can and I'd be very grateful for any info. Hec Paul
Hi Pete.R, thanks for the welcome. Nice TB by the way, I couldn't decide between the TB, TA or the HB, so I just plumped for the HB as it had the nicer back. I had a look at a FB but it just didn't look right to me, nothing like the Gibson FB I've seen on Nighthawks. Have you had a peep under any of the pups?, any labels etc? brianh
No idea, but that's a good question. Congrats on a beautiful 'Hawk, that's the finish I'd get too.
Hec Paul
Hey brianh, thanks. Get one soon, if you can, they're very thin on the ground over here in the U.K. ATM. How did you get the pic so big in your post, instead of a wee thumb nail? HP

Just a guess, but it might mean the body and neck are MIJ, and then sent on to Indonesia or wherever for assembly and QC.

Well if thats true it just adds more WIN to an already awesome guitar (Just checked it has the "23" Indonesia factory code) Heres that review from the Monkey Lord http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nOgNCI4wtQ

It might be that the sticker is printed in Japan and applied in Indonesia, LOL.

That's probably right, the Japanese stole Gibson's sticker-making technology back in the 70's and never looked back.

Hec Paul
Hi, everyone, been busy at work this weekend, and it had to be the best week for weather (28-30'c) we've had all summer/autumn in Essex. Thanks for all the replys and the warm welcome, so it's still a bit of a mystery with what that sticker is about. It doesn't matter to me where the guitar was made, coz it's a really great instrument no matter where it was made, I hope you'll all agree. I'm just as curious as the next guy when it comes to finding out stuff. Best regards to all. HP

Hec Paul
Thanks eggmuffins, you are so right. I'm just about to punt my MIM 50's Strat and my MIM 50's Tele as I don't think I'll be needing them now. I haven't played them for a while now anyway, not since I got GibsonEpiphoneitis ;~) It might seem like a rash decision, no pun intended, but I have just gone off them lately and prefer the feel of the Gibson/Epiphone's, especially the necks. If it's true, then it's a twist worthy of M. Night Shyamalan, and I shall need to buy one. Sh*t...Just when I thought I had some money, too...
