Lungimsam
Which one is built with better materials, craftsmanship, etc?
Grog
I've had three EB-2's, one for about 38 years and have had no complaints about them. I've known people that have had great things to say about the old Guild Starfires. The pickups might be a bit more balanced for some peoples taste. After Epiphone sold everything to Gibson, The workers left behind started the Guild Co. The archtop guitars built by the original Epiphone workers were Gibsons biggest competition. I'm sure that the instruments made by Guild were every bit as good, much like the Heritage guitars made by the people Gibson left behind in Kalamazoo. Gaolee
I haven't had a Guild, but I have no complaints about my EB-2. It's a 1968 EB-2dc which I have had and played since about 1982 or 1983. The two point bridge is a bit fiddly, but not really a problem. Otherwise, it's a semi-hollow, so you can't treat it like a slab, but the intonation and stability of the instrument is just fine. Lungimsam
Is it comfortable to play an EB2 while seated? Can you hold it in your lap like a regular bass? Big bass body.
Grog
It plays fine resting on your knee & I think it's balanced a bit better than the EB-0/EB-3 when standing up. The EB-1 is about the worst for sit down playing...........
Knobby
I would be very, very happy with either!
Gaolee
Is it comfortable to play an EB2 while seated? Can you hold it in your lap like a regular bass? Big bass body. Yep. It is more comfortable sitting or standing than my P-Bass. Maybe that's because I have been playing it forever and haven't had the P for as long, but think about how many ES 335 players you see sitting as well as standing. It's pretty much the same body. pictureted
I have a EB-2 from 1963 that still plays beautifully. I also have the SG bass which I find more comfortable (lighter and more contoured), but the EB-2 is fine to play seated.
