:oilpit:
The other day my strap lock fell out while I was rockin' out (don't worry I caught it) Turns out when the screw whole is stripped, so it just falls out. any tips on how to fix this? Ian Martin
Well, whatever you do, don't take Elmer's Glue and toothpicks and shove them in the hole (at least, not while NeoConMan is around). ;-) If you want to go the extra mile, a dowel and wood glue. Then re-drill. But honestly, I've never had ANY trouble with toothpicks (and you don't have to re-drill). And I go nuts with my guitars, swing the guitar around, jump off amps, the whole nine yards. bobv
It could happen easily if you use the screws from the straplocks on a Gibson because the screw for the endblock/tail pin is much larger than the regular screw. Apparently they put a large eye hook in there and hang the body from it for finishing, then reuse the hole for the strap button only they use a bigger hole. Almost everybody uses toothpicks and glue, mahogany slivers if you want to get fancy. Only a fanatic would approach it this way: http://forums.gibson.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=3964 And yes, I got the idea from Neoconman. I think. Silverbursted
Personally, have not had an issue with the toothpick method, but I don't jump around like a maniac either and have Schallers on all my children. Only thing is I like to use the felt as a filler between the button and the body. I'm not sure which one did not have them (I think the R7), but I had some extras and put them on when I installed the Schallers.
