SRV-Zeppelin
Welcome to the forums! Nice guitar, by the way. You'll find there's quite a bit of eye candy around here (or "guitar porn" as some prefer to call it) so you're always welcome to post tons of pics. (usually the more the better.) Tim Plains
Very nice guitar! How hard is it to get a Gibson in Chile? Are they readily available?
Elias
Very nice guitar! How hard is it to get a Gibson in Chile? Are they readily available? actually it`s a little hard, just because Gibson Les paul are to expensive here... for example if a Gibson les paul Cost around 2000 dollars in the U.S.A here must be around 2.600 dollars.. that is the problem. So if somebody would like to buy one, should pay something like that. otherwise, do what i`ve done. I`ve got a friend so i payed to him and he bought to me My guitar right from U.S.A in one of his flights to your country. and now i`ve got it here. sorry for my inglish, if it was hard to understand. rocketman
Nice looking 2004s. I also have a 2004 Standard (see link below) as well as a 2008. The 2004 does sound different, which I attribute to the true solidbody nature of it (no weight relief). I like both, but I got used to the 2004 sound and find myself playing it more than the 2008. Elias
i havent play another Gibson Standard.. i had the chance to play one historic 58 and one goldtop 57. those are a couple of amazing guitars... But my Standard sound just great. i love the sound of the burstbucker pickups and the wood it`s just amazing.. Any one knows since when the les paul guitars are made with the weight relief holes?? I don't believe Gibson Les Paul Standards have been completely solid since the 80's. Your 2008 would be chambered (meaning they actually hollow out the body). GuitarGuy503
So mine it`s weight relief??... is there any difference with the sound quality with a Solid body Les paul?? Yes, yours is weight relieved. I've actually never played a completely solid LP so I couldn't tell you for sure if theres much difference in tone between the two. If I had to take a guess I'd say that there probably isn't a difference in tone when comparing a weight relieved LP and a completely solid LP. If there is a difference I wouldn't think that it would be a very big difference because the 9 holes in a weight relieved LP aren't all that big and are spaced pretty far apart (body still somewhat solid even with the 9 holes - It's not significantly hollowed out or anything). Hopefully that makes sense as it is the best way I know how to explain it...... :D
Elias
Here i`m with a couple of Les Paul, thou those are not mine Gibson Les Paul Historic 58 Gibson Les Paul Historic Goldtop 57 Gibson Les Paul 1979 original

I don't believe Gibson Les Paul Standards have been completely solid since the 80's. Your 2008 would be chambered (meaning they actually hollow out the body). I did some checking on this and asked my guitar tech too. You are correct. Thanks for pointing this out. The 2004 has weight relief holes and the 2008 is chambered. My guitar tech knocked on the 2008 and you can hear it "resonating." The 2004 is definitely heavier than the 2008 and it does sound different in my opinion, especially at lower volumes. Thanks again. rocketman
so the 2008 it´s chambered.. and does it sound different in a bad way or in a good way??.. or it just sound different and sounds just like a Gibson should sound?? To me all Les Pauls, except an extremely light one I once played (probably chambered and weight relieved!), sound good. The 2004 seems like it's got a slightly warmer tone to it, while the 2008 seems to have a bit more bite. It's tough to really explain but there is a difference to me. It's all good though...
