buzzfret Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I am changing the pickups on my SG custom with 3 pups. I am putting a 490R in the neck and have a P90 and Iommi for the other two. My question is, should I put the Iommi in the center and the p90 in the bridge? I was told the Iommi has great mid range and think it might sound very interesting in the neck pickup . It seems I cannot find any information on anyone ever putting one in the center. Or do you think I should go more traditional and put the p90 in the center and iommi in the bridge? Thanks

Thanks Personally I'd put the P90 in the middle and Iommi in the bridge. but to be honest what pickup do you want to solo with? when playing with a bassist and and drummer for solo's I switch to my bridge in order to cut through the mix especially with overdrive/distortion. All pickups are different though. I had Alnico 2 pro's on and always played the bridge for practically everything. When I changed to Alnico 2 pro Slash pickups im loving the middle position so much more over everything. try one configuration if its not working for you switch them over.

Well i got the p90 today in the mail and decided to go with it in the center. I put the 490r in the neck and the Iommi in the Bridge. I also installed Push Pull pots and plan on having my Tech to the wireing (I suck at soldering). here is what i am thinking. switch in bridge = bridge pickup / with push pull out = middle and bridge Switch in Middle = middle pickup / with 1st push pull out = neck, middle and bridge / with 2nd push pull out = only neck and bridge Switch in neck = neck pickup / with push pull out = middle and neck let me know what you think

Morkolo Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 took my guitar to a shop today and was told they can not do this type of wireing without a drawing. anyone able to help? I'm not sure if he still does it for people but I know over on the Telecaster forum if Deaf Eddie can't write up a wiring diagram for you than nobody can. Here's a link to his site. http://deaf-eddie.net/
