buliwyf Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I stop every now and then to check out the local pawn shops for guitars. The closest one has a 1985 (I may have read the serial number wrong I used the usual 3rd and 5th numbers in the serial) Gibson L-6 in around a 7 for condition. It plays pretty darn good (needs a set up) has the original PU's and knobs and they are asking $749.00 for it with the original hard case.I know MF has a limited run of them in stock for $1699.00 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/gibson-limited-run-l6-s-electric-guitar I can probably get them down to $700.00 is that a good price for an 1985, L-6 does anyone have one or ever played one.I read that Al DiMeola and Carlos Santana used one for a while,It looks kind of like a skinny LP.After looking at wikipedia I believe it's a L-6 custom with the six way rotary chicken head selector. It looks exactly like the one picture in wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_L6-S Actually I'm putting in an edit about the year.It is probably around a 1976 or 1978 and I think it is a L-6 custom,I dont think they made these after 1980
carv3r Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 for 700 id buy this guitar, play it first of course and make suer the p ups are original and not swapped out for some junk. pawn shops scare me sometimes.
ScottGrove Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 You would be checking for the 1st and 5th numbers. There were quite a few different L6-S models and they are worth the $700.00 if you can make sure it's 100% original, no changed parts, original hardshell case included and no repairs anywhere, especially the headstock. Plus, no refinishing.
