Jazz754 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 So I've been playing guitar for about 8 years now, and I can occasionally tab out songs by ear, or more often by watching someone play it. I really want to play this song, but I'm having trouble seeing what chords the guitarist is playing because of the angle of this camera. Also I put my capo on the third fret like he has it, but it doesn't sound right. Is it in a different tuning? If some one could take a look at this video of it, and let me know, I would really appreciate it! Thanks
dchristo Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 it sounds like he's in drop D tuning with no capo
AnneS Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 it sounds like he's in drop D tuning with no capo Sounds like the key of C to me--
jdd707 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Try looking for the tab on line or play it in a key (and/or tuning) that fits your voice ... that will help develop your ear. Make it your own and don't feel that you have to exactly copy what he does ... you might like your version better.
albertjohn Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 My 2 penneth: Capod at 3 like you say. Sounds like standard tuning. First chord is an A shape (1st finger covering d,g and b strings) so Cmaj, the IV chord is a D9 shape xx0230 from the sound although not from where his fingers are. The V chord is E - played 022400 - he's covering the a and d string with his first finger and stretching the pinky to 4 of the g string. There's a 3 chord in there too (c#) but I can't tell how he plays it. Hopefully this will help you make a start at least. BTW thanks for posting the song. I'm really getting into Americana, Country Rock etc so love this stuff. Cheers.
