Lotus Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 http://www.tfoa.eu/the_store/index.php?target=products&product_id=34466 Not really my cup of tea but it's worth a hell lot apparently
ParlourMan Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 There's bling, heavy-bling, double-bling, what-the-hell bling, then this..... it's so over the top it's actually gaudy and nasty looking. I would expect to get ribbed if I were ever to be seen playing a guitar like that.
Bob Marsh Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 while certainly a Tour De Force for the inlay artist extraordinaire and, as they stated "Doesn't know its equal" It's a bit much for me. Last time an instrument inspired such ambiguous feelings was the 1 millionth Martin which to me was so far out that it was coming in the other side...

Well . . . . that's your opinion and certainly valid to some. Not me. I love the bling. Gorgeous inlay work. A fat wallet is maybe not big enough - more like a fat bank. . ParlourMan Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 As a museum piece, yeah why not, if the beauty is not there for all the players to see, the skills required to create such a piece most certainly are regardless of where you stand. But as a playing guitar, it's an 'ouch' for me.... Just too heavy on the jazz, there's just so much of it I actually think it starts to look cheap (which it certainly is not) Horses for courses I guess, it wouldn't be much of a world if we all liked the same stuff. @ BK - The pic you posted is nowhere near as OTT though, bling heavy, yes... on par with the taste-insanity in the original link, no. ;)
j45nick Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 There's bling, and then there's BLING. I think this one crosses over into BLING territory. Interesting as a piece of art, less so as something to play. Sort of like driving a diamond-encrusted Ferrari to the supermarket. Can you imagine pulling that out of its case to play at your local club?
MissouriPicker Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I like the bling. Not over-the-top for me. The inlay is superb and the butterflies on the pickguard are part of the theme. Of course, I like the "VINE" guitars that Gibson does so well. Some folks like plain guitars, some like fancy ones. It's all good.

onewilyfool Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I get butterflies in my stomach just looking at it....
albertjohn Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I love the bling. I wouldn't call it understated but it oozes quality for me. Having said that, my favourite part is the back. Magnificent!
rar Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Can you imagine pulling that out of its case to play at your local club? Sure, no problem. As long as I'm imagining, I just imagine that my local club is the Grand Ole Opry and that I'm dressed in a Nudie suit. -- Bob R

Nothing personal, it just reminds me of one of those "I have a final exam in the morning that I haven't studied for" nightmares.
EuroAussie Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Oh thats waaay too much bling, I really am not a fan of such bling at all must say. But gree with AJ, the back of her looks stunning, this I do like.
GotTheSilver Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 The guitar is not as over the top as I expected from the OP. It's a bit much for me overall, but I like the butterflies on the pickguard. And the back is gorgeous. But I keep thinking about how many great guitars I could buy for a total of $100,000!
Tarrr Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Some things clearly separate collectors from players. But on the other hand it sure would look good on the wall next to the velvet Elvis poster. . . . hunka hunka
retrorod Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I,m sure it is a fine sounding guitar....But, WAY over the top on "bling factor" for me. Jes' sayin'..
BluesKing777 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Incredible inlay work. There was a thread going around back a while about the museum Gibsons, though I don't know where that was. Unfortunately, BluesKing777 is blingless at this stage (unless you include the miniature abalone dots I put on the bone pins of my Martin 000-15. I have been buying ole Mojo and steaming swamp geets to play blues picking, which would probably look a leeeettle bit unusual with a 'butterfly'! Does a shiny metal Dobro count as bling? Most people go 'Oooohh' when it comes out of its case. (some probably 'Oh No, not that again!"). BluesKing777.

And I don't mean a single guitar. I mean I can buy a bunch of nice guitars.

EuroAussie Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 $35k hey ...maybe this thread should take a left turn and ask the question, so which guitars would you buy if you had $35k lying around. I would start with a HB-TV or a Vintage 60's one, Collings dread, Greven, Santa Cruz, vintage D-18, vintage Gibby LG somethin' ...and I would still have 15K or so left over after that lot I reckon ...

ParlourMan Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I've rounded out (upwards) the figures for ease, but here goes.... (It's also represented in *rough* euro value) 1 x Hummingbird TV modded for electronics & setup 3.5k 2 x SJ-200 TV (a blonde and an SB) modded for electronics 8.5k 1 x woody guthrie sig < 2k It would leave me around 21k or more to play with, this I would use to behave like a rockstar, investing it in wine, women, chemicals and all other manner of bad roads to turn down so I had some interesting things to write about keeping a couple of grand for a change of clothes here and there along the way.
