I have a "New Vintage" Wildwood but its a Southern Jumbo, not a J-45. I'm loving it.

ParlourMan Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 an extra 3-400 for them not to apply a VOS finish seems cheeky.... should come in either form for around the same price.

This is a pretty standard price diffential on their electrics for VOS versus gloss finish. As I understand it, the gloss finish requires more buffing and finish work, so more labor means more cost. I have not played a Wildwood New Vintage, but when I was recently seriously considering getting a True Vintage J-45, I was definitely looking at these. Almost all of the TV J-45s I have played have been great guitars. I would expect the New Vintage to be basically the same thing with a gloss finish, so I would expect it to be good. They also have a version with more hide glue construction than the TV, which would be interesting.

What about taking 300 off the TV, not rubbing the compound in to an already fairly buffed guitar and calling it 'sort of vintage' then? I'd buy it.... I think such a difference in price for a round of buffing is counter-productive in overall sales terms, it's almost unofficially saying they charge 300 for buffing, that seems like it's quite an expensive operation, wages + overheads / amount of buffed guitars produced per day is very highly unlikely to amount to 300 per unit. Gibson has always suffered from the perception of being over-priced, such an ill-considered move only plays in to the hands of the detractors, they are vocal and they are many. Online if something is repeated often enough it becomes 'information' that many will take at face value, true or otherwise.
gotomsdos Posted October 29, 2011 Author Posted October 29, 2011 Thank you all buddies ! I wonder of the difference between VOS and gloss. I'd like more traditional gibson sound and its vintage style. So which one is closer to more traditional gibson sound and its vintage style ? And what's the advantage of gloss (or why was it that wildwood changed VOS (J45 TV) to gloss finish)? just for looking shining? if so, I do not like it.
