Scream And Fly Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Hi everyone, I bought a new Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro about a year or so ago. I haven't had much time to play it, and the guitar has always been inside a climate controlled room, never taken outside. I took it out of the case one day and I noticed ALL of the volume and tone knobs were cracked down the middle - or more accurately, they seem to be split. I emailed Gibson about it and never heard back. These are the gold knobs. Has anyone else had this happen?
Morkolo Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Unless they were in direct sunlight each day I'm not sure what the problem would be and I'd have a hard time believing that would cause cracks so quickly too. Obviously over time plastic parts get brittle but with a year or so is ridiculous.
Angellus Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 possibly a bad batch of knobs, the plastic composite left them brittle. Replace them they aren't too expensive
Scream And Fly Posted October 29, 2011 Author Posted October 29, 2011 Yeah it's very strange. I've owned several new Les Pauls and this is the first time I've seen this happen. This guitar is barely played. Here's a photo:
Angellus Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 it could be number of things to do with their manufacturing, but i'd defintely blame the knobs, how strange, thanks for posting
hickorynotch Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Same knobs on mine with same prob. Took two days. Frustrating.
strat-o-steve Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 My traditional LP had cracked knobs when I bought it new, but it sounded and played better than the rest, so I took it. The store gave me new knobs, but I haven't installed them, and won't until mine split in two like yours have. I have 3 other Gibson's with black speed knobs, and they haven't cracked at all in 4 years!
