Robot SG

I picked one of these up from MusciansFriends @ the discounted price 1399. I always wanted a SG. I picked the Metallic green one. I was looking at the standard @ 1600 and special @ 1100 trying to decide for some time, then I saw the price drop on the robot and pulled the trigger. So far I'm glad I did.

This model seems to be a standard+ robot sg not a special. The finish is see thru, you can see the grain and see that the body not one piece, but three pieces, the neck is one piece, the neck is bound, has the logo and holly of the standard, same pickups as standard, and the ebony fretboard and neutrik jack to me makes it a plus. Then throw in the robot tuner that puts it over the top. The bridge is a locking one and the saddles are rollers. The tuners are locking too. So far I can not find a problem with it. Great guitar and a great buy.

Well now a couple of things pop up.

First I notice no truss rod tool, I call support and they tell me they don't give them away any longer, I should call Stewart McDonald and order one.

Second I notice the MCK (master control knob) is very wobbly. It is connected by only 1 little allen screw and it does not fit nice snug on the push/pull post. When you spin it around to adjust the tone it is wobbly and crooked, just feels bad like it's going to give, haven't called on this yet.

Thanks for the brief review, glad to hear you are enjoying your new axe!

I seriously think you are the first person to post who owns a Robot SG, everybody has the LP.

Post some pics, I'd love to see what the green finish really looks like.

ALSO, shame on Gibson for not including the truss rod wrench anymore. HOW much do their guitars cost? I mean seriously. Considering one of the selling points for the Robots is that they can "self-intonate," it's a bit shady to not include the wrench. I don't know about you, but I don't end up intonating for fun...it's usually because of a neck adjustment.

I would call musicians friend and see if you should return it for another one. Shame that it's not put together better.

Good luck with it and post some pictures!! ](*,)

Adjusting the truss rod usually won't affect the intonation--I don't know' date=' but it seems to me that when the time comes that I can't tune my own guitar, I'm gonna hang it up. No robot guitars for this cowboy![/quote']

The Robot didn't sell me. I felt the overall options of this guitar was worth the price. It's like getting a standard plus for less. You can pull out the tuning key buttons to disengage the ROBOT and use it manually. Then you have a great set of locking tuners! Plus a locking roller bridge and an ebony board too.
