Got a question for everyone., I am playing with a drummer this week working on some music for the album I am recording. I want to just han a mic and record the whole thing....can be rough really doesnt matter. What type of mic do you think is best for this and as I am playing the guitar and vox through a PA, where would you place the mic in relation to the drums?

Thanks!

Help?

I can't tell you what mic to use for this, but the placement will depend on what the drums are going to be like relative to the guitar. The only way to know if you are getting the effect you are looking for is to experiment with different mic placements. What is recorded vs. what you hear live in the room will depend on the dynamics of the mic and the acoustics of the room. Don't see how you can generalize on this one. This is hard to do from a single mic placement. Drums are a pain in the a** in the best of settings. I used to keep them as far away from the mic as possible in a small setting.
