ZagsElite
guess I'll get my other question out of the way, was lucky enough to score one of the teal studios: (not actual image, mine looks better too) looking to replace the cheap 1ply pickguard, any real difference between a 3ply and 5ply, will it ever matter? also black pearl or white pearl? leaning towards black also instead of the tuplip tuners it came with these chrome ones that have a self tightening knob on the backs of the heads, so you insert a string in the hole and turn the knob to tighten, anyone know what these are called, are they good tuners? better/worse than grovers? also do these mean I don't need to account for slack when restringing? ie could I just pull the string tight into the tuner hole and tighten with the bottom knob? Ren
What your describing sounds like the Grover tuners on the new 2008 model LP standards. If so, then yes, they're high class, though they do have 'Grover' written on them). I wouldn't suggest pulling the string tight, leave just a bit of slack in it, making sure it's lying over the bridge saddles properly, then tighten the bottom knurled knob. Then the string should tune up in not a lot more than half a turn of the tuning post.
MikeRom
They're called locking tuners. Good stuff -
