johnbo Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Does anyone know what this is? I've never seen one of these and suspect its a fake something-or-other...
Grog Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Gibson ES-320. They had Melody Maker pickups & were sold from about 1971 to 1974.
L5Larry Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I had two of these pass through my hands in the late-70's, a blonde one and a cherry sunburst. They were great guitars, and in fact were the first thinlines I ever had, and started me on my hollow body journey. I wish I still had the sunburst, I don't even remember what happened to it, but I did run into the guy that bought the blonde one a few years ago. He didn't remember what he did with that one. Oh the 70's. AND to be 20 again You can get some real cool tones out of this guitar, completely different than like a 335. My favorite was the neck pickup with the tone rolled completely off, for that "Santana Tone". I used this guitar for a lot of studio work back in the day. If anyone has a chance to pick one of these up (they're not expensive, and were "cheap" guitars in the first place), I would highly recommend it.
Versatile Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I like this type of guitar Shows the family resemblance to the ES 330 The other big name in S/C hollows being Gretsch...... V
